Does trading Matt Cain or releasing him save the Giants $20 million
Steve Adams
3:33
Trading him would save them the money if they got the other team to take the money on, but they'd still have to pay him if they released him.
3:34
If they trade that contract, though, they'd probably have to take a poor contract back in exchange or give up some minor league talent to convince a team to take on that cash.

Favs to land Trumbo?
Steve Adams
3:35
Still the Orioles to me. I don't see another team giving up a first-round pick and paying him for four years -- especially not in right field. And there aren't that many teams with obvious first base needs and the ability to spend. (Plus, if those teams were out there, why not just spend more for Encarnacion?)

3:35
Rangers seem very quiet, but still have a few holes to fill. Any news?
Steve Adams
3:36
They don't have much in the way of money to spend, it seems. I think they'll add one of those first base/DH bats that fall through the cracks next month or in February at the very least.

Is matt adams still with the cards in 2017?
Steve Adams
3:38
He doesn't have much of a role on the team, but again -- free agent market flooded with guys that are just like Adams... who's going to trade for him and send some form of minor leaguer to St. Louis in exchange?
Cliff
3:38
Zack Cozart to the Dodgers to play 2B? Doubt it would cost as much as Dozier. Bats right handed and plays superior defense. What he lacks with the bat, he can make up for with the glove. Thoughts?
Steve Adams
3:39
A huge element of Cozart's value is tied to his defense at shortstop. Plus, he's only controlled for one year. I disagree with the notion that Cozart's glove would balance out the offensive discrepancy with him and Dozier, too. For me, the Dodgers would be perfectly justified in giving up De Leon+ to get Dozier.

Do Nats make a deal for a close?
Steve Adams
3:41
They'll add someone there, yeah. Still wonder if they'll pull someone that we haven't really been giving tons of consideration. Sean Doolittle, Raisel Iglesias, Alex Colome, etc.

3:42
Thoughts on Odubel Herrera extension?
Steve Adams
3:42
Thumbs up, Matt Klentak.

What FA non-signing surprises you most?
Steve Adams
3:43
I thought Encarnacion's market would be much stronger. Also surprised there's been seemingly little interest (at least public interest) in Jason Hammel, Ivan Nova and Travis Wood. So many teams still need pitching.

3:43
Who would take a granderson/Bruce packaged together?
Steve Adams
3:43
Think they'll have to be moved in separate trades if they both go.
John
3:44
Brett Anderson or Kris Medlen make any sense for NYY as sort of lighter, riskier, cheaper versions of R Hill?
Steve Adams
3:45
Yeah -- they still need to add some kind of rotation depth. Can't count on Tanaka+Pineda+Sabathia making 90+ starts again in 2017, and the depth they have with Green, Cessa, Mitchell and Warren is nice, but some of those guys (Warren in particular) probably end up in the 'pen.
Tigers
3:46
Please handicap Tigers opening day CF
Steve Adams
3:46
It's not going to be anyone that excites you -- either one of the internal options like Collins/Gose or a non-roster invite with some experience. Peter Bourjos?

3:46
Any chance Travis Wood re-signs with the Cubs?
Steve Adams
3:46
If he decides he wants to relieve, yeah, but I think he wants to start
3:47
Daniel Hudson signs with Pittsburgh -- excuse me for a moment, have to put this on the site.
Two years, $11MM per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports
Jermaine
3:50
Any sings of Hudson being in the starting rotation or he'll operate in the 'pen?
Steve Adams
3:51
He'll be in the 'pen... he's already had a pair of Tommy Johns, doubt they're interested in adding 100-something innings to the workload
Derek
3:51
Will the Mets attempt to sign Wieters, or another catcher
Steve Adams
3:51
Nah, I think it'll be d'Arnaud and Rivera mainly in 2017.
Bill
3:52
Wieters to Colorado sounds like a perfect fit.
Steve Adams
3:52
Yeah there's some sense to that.
Doug
3:53
Are there any other Twins being discussed in trades?
Steve Adams
3:53
Ervin Santana. I like Brandon Kintzler as a throw-in to sweeten a Dozier or Ervin deal.
Pirates
3:53
Are you surprised at the overpay for Daniel Hudson given the injury history?
Steve Adams
3:53
I don't think it's an overpay. I think it's a bargain.
3:54
Back in a couple of minutes -- apologies... multi-tasking here!
3:58
Ok back to this now!
Matt K
3:58
How much better do you think Hudson looks now that he's out of Arizona?
