Apologies on the late start! I'll go over our normal cutoff time, of course. Some last minute Valentine's errands and mishaps derailed my afternoon, ha. Blame Hallmark?

Cardinals and Quintana?
Steve Adams
3:49
1, We don't know exactly what's wrong with Reyes just yet, even though the outlook obviously isn't good.
2. The White Sox would've wanted Reyes in a Quintana deal, which adds another layer of complexity. Obviously they could work around it, but it's not something I think will pick up a ton of serious traction right now.

With the Twins signing Craig Breslow, do you think he will be successful or is this just a guy to fill a spot until someone else comes in?
Steve Adams
3:51
Scouts seemed genuinely intrigued by his new mechanics, and he has a pretty long track record of usefulness in a big league 'pen, though he's three years removed from meaningful contribution I suppose.

At any rate, I think he makes their bullpen to open the season. But, even if he's successful, he's a guy to fill a spot. If he pitches well, he'll probably be traded this summer and replaced by a young arm from the farm. If he bombs, he'll still be replaced by a young arm from the farm.

If smoak has a terrible spring do you think the jays cut him loose?
Steve Adams
3:52
They (inexplicably) extended him for two years and $8MM last winter. I have no idea why that happened and it looks sillier now with the stacked 1B free agent market. But he's not going to get cut, no.

Angel Pagan's 2017 team?
Steve Adams
3:52
Stubbornly clinging to my Blue Jays guess.
Mets
3:52
Who makes more starts this year? Gsellman, Lugo or Wheeler?
Steve Adams
3:52
I'll say the order in which you have them listed is the order (greatest to least)

Bruce to WS for Fraizer?
Steve Adams
3:52
How does it help the White Sox? They're getting the worse player and no long-term value.
Coco Crisp
3:53
Is it possible I sign with the Orioles?
Steve Adams
3:53
I can see that, yeah.
Mike
3:53
Wieters too expensive to play for Colorado?
Steve Adams
3:54
At a certain point his asking price is going to have to come down. Bridich has never expressly ruled out making a catching addition, so if he gets down to one year, sure maybe the Rox jump into the mix. (Though so would multiple others... Rays, Angels, etc.)

Rockies do seem to like Tony Wolters and Tom Murphy though. I do as well, for what it's worth.

Is mlbtr going to do a list of players that are out of options
Steve Adams
3:55
We are indeed. Not entirely sure when it'll come out. We have to put some effort into confirming as many names as possible, but we'll release one in the next few weeks, I believe.

How come no one has signed Doug Fister?
Steve Adams
3:56
Two straight years of a mid-4s ERA with ugly peripherals and a fastball sitting 86-87 mph. Declining ground-ball rate, worsening control. I'd bet there are some teams that don't want to give him a Major League deal, even. Kind of surprising, considering how underrated and excellent he was for a few years, but his decline has been precipitous.

Does Park make the Twins roster or does Vargas open up as DH?
Steve Adams
3:58
I'd imagine Vargas has the inside track because he's already on the 40-man roster, but he does have an option left, so if Park has a huge Spring and Vargas tanks, Park could get his 40-man spot back at the end of next month. But I'd bet much more heavily on Kennys winning the spot.

Any chance of Ty Blach beating out Cain for the Giants #5 starter? If so, is Cain's albatross contract tradeable?
Steve Adams
3:59
I think there's a definite chance of it, though the Giants hope that Cain pitches well enough to nab the fifth spot. Cain has full 10-and-5 rights, so don't hold your breath on a trade.

If you could bring back one set of home/away jerseys for any team, which would you bring back?
Steve Adams
4:00
The Padres' brown and yellow ones or the Astros ridiculous orange/yellow stripes.

My wife wants to eat at a steakhouse for Valentine's dinner. That's worth 10 WAR, right?
Steve Adams
4:01
I'm not gonna get into the new and controversial "Wives Above Replacement" metric, but I hope you enjoy your meal!

Thoughts on the Lind signing in Washington???
Steve Adams
4:02
I liked Brandon Moss better as a fit there since he's a much better option in the outfield, but for a $1.5MM guarantee with a cheap option it's a great deal for the Nats.
Mitch
4:02
What are odds of Mallex Smith getting 30 bags with Rays?
Steve Adams
4:03
I don't know if he'll spend enough time in the Majors this season to steal 30. I'd wager he goes to AAA to open the season, with the Rays adding a veteran type to serve as the fourth/fifth OF (Fuld? Gentry?)
Kevin Gausman
4:03
With Tillman most likely staring the year on the DL, do I get the ball opening day
Steve Adams
4:03
I would assume so, yeah
Jeff Todd
4:03
Do you see the Orioles signing Latos to a minors deal or going after Fister possibly?
Steve Adams
4:04
I think Fister's probably holding out for an MLB deal, and there's no clear rotation spot there for him so I don't love the fit. Plus, Duquette has kind of hinted that he's looking mostly at non-roster guys for pitching depth. And the Orioles already have like 4-5 fifth starters.
Latos, on a non-roster deal, sure.
Doug
4:04
Any chance Ben Revere reverts back to a good every-day player? Can he start over Maybin for the Halos?
Steve Adams
4:05
He's only had the one terrible year, and it came with a 100-point dip in BABIP from his 2015 mark (and about 80 points from his career mark). It's not at all difficult for me to see him outplaying Maybin or just getting more at-bats because he stays healthier
