8:25
then you do 4 times .6
AvatarGreg Miller
8:25
Not times
Kasey
8:25
no it's 4 right
AvatarGreg Miller
8:25
Ok.. the "bottom" is .6 divided by sqrt(16)... did you forget square root again?
Kasey
8:24
yes and that is -.5
cool 1
AvatarGreg Miller
8:23
Xbar - mu = 6.3 - 6.8... did you get that for the "top" of the test statistic?
8:22
Hold up.. but I don't think so.... let me check...
Kasey
8:22
I got t=-.2083.  Is that the right direction?
AvatarGreg Miller
8:09
Yeah... the cutting and pasting is something we all do in document creation and RE-creation that it's just a simple error to make..
Kasey
8:09
Oh man I've done that before too I'm sure.  Bet it's hard not to hold it against them!
AvatarGreg Miller
Well, at least we know where else you are applying!!
8:08
"I'm hoping you will consider my application for graduate school in statistics at Georgia Southern University"... uh... oops!
Kasey
8:07
So it happens to everyone and everyone does it! lol
AvatarGreg Miller
8:07
I've had prospective grad students send me cover letters to apply to grad school that read...
Kasey
8:06
There would be times we would get into court and the title or style of the case document would be changed but then there would be other clients names throughout the document. We would reuse if case facts were similar...   Accidental violation of client confidentiality.
tongue 1
AvatarGreg Miller
8:04
At least.. that's what I'm betting... which is fine...
Then... does a 90% CI...
8:03
Yeah... that's prolly just him arguing that he thinks Type II error is worse.. so he personally sets his alpha at .10
Kasey
8:03
It happens.  I saw where Ben said he used a 90% confidence level and I was like where is that!
AvatarGreg Miller
7:59
I copied and pasted to try and keep the instructions "similar".. but I didn't change teh word "is" for "isn't"... blah.
Ugh.
7:58
I am typing so many dang worksheets that I've been burned two or three times this Maymester on cut and pasting..
Kasey
7:58
There is no angry face so I had to put a sad face. lol
7:57
Oh Dr. Miller... What did I tell you about those typos... I'm like searching and searching and I'm like maybe everyone else knows something I don't.  Where is this!  I promise I don't ask just to point out typos. I legit am like I don't see it!
AvatarGreg Miller
Evaluate the Type I and II errors and defend your choice of alpha
7:56
Yep... pick it.
Kasey
7:56
So we pick one?!
AvatarGreg Miller
7:55
Typo.. don't kill me.. it's not provided
sad 1
Kasey
7:54
Ive reached the part where we discusss the significance level.  the question says it's provided and then to answer the question in the box above concerning type 1 and 2 errors.  Am I missing them?
AvatarGreg Miller
7:43
It's Friday!
Kasey
7:43
Ok sorry about that. I think I might be tired and not thinking straight.
AvatarGreg Miller
Sometimes.. it's provided to you as a time saver... someone else has done it before you came along and you get the benefit.
7:42
Sometimes.. you get raw data values and YOU calculate X-bar and YOU calculate s from scratch...
7:41
I'm providing you the sample standard deviation (s) so that when you get to the test statistic step you don't have to stop and calculate it from the raw data itself.. that's good b/c you don't actually have the raw data to look at in this problem
7:40
Test statistic uses "s".. now you know it.
Kasey
is this mu?
7:40
ok I know this is silly but idk what to do with it!?
AvatarGreg Miller
7:38
You're Welcome.
7:37
Sometimes you get a freebie and don't have to calculate s yourself...
