I am not going to be outside during the test if I can help it. I did not even notice that I had an unfinished statement because of it.
AvatarGreg Miller
I few people that I know that work in medical research fields that use statistics said they were completely shocked at that misstep..
8:08
I found that astounding.. just an amazing elementary mistake
8:07
They have since separated it out... they did so almost immediately.. it was pretty weird.. I actually posted the story that the CDC was doing that to a few of my social media pages.

I am curious what you thought about the news a few days ago that Texas is one of four states that was combining the antibody tests with the positivity rates when they were reporting on Covid-19. Did that change your thinking about the numbers that you had been following?

Yes me too! And the more tired I get the more mistakes I make.  Ashli will need a bit more time to chase down her papers again!

It seems like that is becoming a lost art these days...

I am definitely slow, I like to analyze everything. when I speed up to meet a deadline I make mistakes. So a big thank you for that!

Yes.. seeing the same "concept" expressed in two equally accurate ways is good for our perspective..we need to know when we are discussing things with people and we are really "saying the same thing"
Ashli Owens
7:41
I know, I just get it in my head to say something one way, then when I see it expressed in a new way it throws me off sometimes. But that is okay, it helps me learn.

Sometimes people are fast/slow workers.. so usually on the last test I tend to try and take the time element out of it if people need a little extra to wrap things up
7:40
Also, since this is the last exam.. and we only have two exams, I intend to be lenient if people need extra time..
they aren't written in any different style of language or intent that what you've seen on midterm/quizzes
7:39
More seriously.. the questions are similar to what you've read before..
7:38
Tricky.. is like beauty.. in the eye of the beholder... LOL...

I don't feel like I am being waterboarded with statistics anymore. It also no longer feels like I am reading a foreign language. Now, I feel like I am thirsty and trying to soak up every drop of information to be prepared for the test. I just need the questions to not be too tricky. LOL

Ok thanks!

A lot of times in Fall/Spring.. people see "Assumptions" on keys.. and they are like.. "oh.. yeah.. assumptions.. I forgot those"... so they are there as much to remind as they are to explain.
Both samples come from normal populations.. .samples are random.. samples not paired.. samples come from populations that have the same spread
For Case 3.. Assumptions:
7:24
Well. .sometimes the keys are "brief" for checking purposes.
Kasey
7:23
Is it ok for us to write the same things you write for the assumptions on your keys? I noticed on the brakes case I wrote a lot and then you said what I said in 1 short and sweet sentence. Lol
7:19
ok got it I think I was just confusing myself
cool 1
AvatarGreg Miller
which is what I wrote in the 7:13 post.. just reorganized.
7:17
Yeah. so enhanced (new) would stop sooner.. u1 < u2
Kasey
7:16
we have the same populations. P1 is enhanced p2 old brakes

Sp^2
cool 1
insert phrases for Y and X.. insert numbers for low and high
cool 1
7:16
Ashli.. CI for slope phrasing.. something like.. "We are 95% confident that the slope when predicting Y from X is between low and high.

Hi Dr. Miller & Kasey, I have two questions right now, both pretty minor...........1. I cannot find the paper that I wrote your answer to "How to phrase the CI for a Case like 4?" Can you please tell me the answer again, sorry about that..........2. I am a little confused about writing the abbreviation for Sp squared, is it Sp^2 or S^2p?
AvatarGreg Miller
7:14
Look at what is defined as population 1 on key.. compare to yours
Kasey
did we mix the populations maybe?
7:14
but your key says m1 less than m2
AvatarGreg Miller
7:13
which is what I think I just typed.. in words.. which is correct.
Kasey
7:13
I know why I got confused now. My thinking was that if Ha is correct it would be a smaller number so it should read m1 greater than m2
AvatarGreg Miller
7:13
average stopping distance of old > average stopping distance for new
7:12
Well.. Better brakes stop cars SOONER...
Kasey
7:12
Ok I’ll have to read closer.  If Ha is what we are wanting to achieve then it should be greater than as in the breaks case.
AvatarGreg Miller
7:10
Ha is determined entirely by the desire of the case and the language in the case.
