Ben Clemens

This is close between the two of them. I want one of those two for sure though. I'd lean Bader because of his arm but you certainly can't go wrong.

Not Buxton?
Connor
10:47
how much money is in the 'manipulate the marine layer' portion of the dodgers r&d budget
Ben Clemens
10:48
I don't enjoy watching Buxton because I'm so afraid he'll break. It's an uncomfortable feeling.
Craig Edwards
10:48
as long as it doesn't count against the tax.

Is Kiermaier or Buxton no longer the gold standard for CFs?
Ben Clemens
10:49
I think it's probably fair to say that Kiermaier is not the current best fielding CF, because the young guys just have a step on him now. Buxton is excellent, it's just, the walls. I'm afraid of the walls.

Dodgers on the side of climate change & paid for extra pollution to get the weather up to 100 degrees in 2017 WS game 1
Craig Edwards
10:50
I just realized how weird the minimum batter rule would be in the playoffs. I know about pace of play, but guys coming in to get one out feels like playoff baseball, a little.

So Kolarek's appearance doesn't happen next year.  Would have to face 2 more guys.
Craig Edwards
10:51
right.

Dodgers trade for a lefty specialist; gets Soto swinging in a playoff game
Craig Edwards
10:51
looks like the trade worked. Scott Alexander was supposed to be pitching right now, I think.

I saw a blog which suggested Betts could be traded for Maeda, Pederson, and a top 100 prospect. That's a terrible trade for LAD right?
Craig Edwards
10:53
Maybe back-end top-100. That's a weird trade, for sure, but doesn't really help the Red Sox accomplish much of what they are trying to do, which would be to get cheaper and get better long term.
5 Run Homer
10:53
Pace of play doesn’t matter in the playoffs, I think
Ben Clemens
10:53
Oh man I'd snap that trade off so quickly if I were the Dodgers.
Craig Edwards
10:53
i get the mound visit rule.
Ben Clemens
10:53
Joc is also a year away from free agency, and serious health questions around Maeda.
Craig Edwards

Chris Taylor: valuable utility guy.
Ben Clemens
10:54
Chris Taylor: excellent chance to use one of my favorite Puig quotes

Mound visit rule seems fine. Rules that actually change the value of players and affect roster decisions, though...

10:56
That's a real quote???
Craig Edwards
10:56
I tend to agree.
Nico Robin
10:56
I don't get how anyone can not love Puig
Ben Clemens
10:56
As I understand it, the mound visit rule came about after Willson Contreras got confused and called a session of the College of Cardinals to elect a new pope when he was supposed to be calming John Lackey down.
Craig Edwards
10:57
Guessing Maeda gets to keep going here, maybe finish the game?
Ben Clemens
10:58
I will admit to to a high potential for residual bias from my Cardinals fandom, but there's no above-average player I less enjoy watching than Contreras.
RandyMarsh
10:58
Speaking of College of Cardinals, when there was smoke coming out from a fire at Fenway Park this week, it apparently was supposed to be a sign that they have a new GM
Ben Clemens
10:58
It's gotten much better now that he doesn't average two mound visits per runner on second.
But between that and the heavy-handed framing, oof.

"One of those rare Tanner for Tanner deals." Best EJ moment of the night.

Why the Contreras hate? Hes an awful framer for sure, but a good hitter with a cannon and his backpicks with rizzo are a delight
Ben Clemens
11:00
Yeah he's fun to watch hit. I just really enjoy good framing, and really dislike mound visits.
Connor

Does Maeda's health concerns (and i guess age by now) stop him from being a trade target?  His contract seems pretty good for a team that wants a 4th-ish starter on a budget *and* has been willing to go to the pen - seems like a good theoretical piece for teams with iffy young pitching to go after as he can fill in the gaps
Craig Edwards
11:01
He's not a great trade target because he's a pretty good fit for the Dodgers as a good starter who you don't have to pay for if he's not good.

The number of guys I've barely heard out there chucking a hundo is out of control.
