Weeellll, two of them are 17 years old, so they might not be here when we leave next summer.
Liam

I believe there are restrictions on how many pets can be on the same flight.
I'm not sure if it's a law or just an airline rule.
but it's a low-ish number. You'll want to make sure they can get them all on the same flight if possible.
11:09
Ah I see, 17 is getting up there in age for sure.
Valerie Adams
11:09
Good to know. We were thinking my husband could go a couple of weeks early, so he could meet planes and boxes
Liam
11:09
Good idea.
They don't have to be on the same flight as you.
11:10
that worked out in my favor in the past. My family on the other side were able to pick up my dog.
Valerie Adams
11:10
I can't see me heading through the airport with the Ark
Liam
11:10
haha, that'd be quite the gang
Valerie Adams
11:10
If a dog is small, like Dave's, have you taken them as carry-on?
Liam
11:10
Often, you can drop them off ahead of time (the day before)
Dave Speer
11:11
Valerie, from what I know they can't fly international in the main cabin
unlike domestic US flights
Valerie Adams
11:11
Ok. I suppose that's a long time to stay cooped up
Liam
11:12
That is correct.
Dave Speer
11:12
Yes, however would give us more peace of mind.
Valerie Adams
11:12
Right!
Dave Speer
11:13
Can you get a direct flight into Dublin? that makes life a whole lot simpler too
Liam
11:13
That's certainly the best option Dave. Mine went via LA - Germany - Dublin one time.
Valerie Adams
11:14
That's a long flight!
Liam
11:14
And, there was a day delay btwn Germany and Dublin
Valerie Adams
11:14
Did you sedate the dogs?
Liam
11:14
Oh no, you're not meant to sedate them.
11:15
Whoever you speak to (pet company or airline), they will tell you that.
Valerie Adams
11:15
Then maybe some for me :)
Liam
11:15
Ha ha, that's funny.
Valerie Adams
11:16
There's a local airport here. Would it help to take them to visit, to get used to the noise?
Liam
11:16
The dogs can pick up on our anxiety. It's recommended to be as calm as you can and to try not to let them think it's a bad thing
Dave Speer
11:16
That's a great idea, Valerie. I've heard of others doing that.
Also, getting them used to the crate
11:17
leaving it open, encouraging them to spend time in there etc.
Valerie Adams
11:17
Oh, yes. I didn't think of that
Liam
11:18
Yeah, there's lots of info out there on this topic. I'll try to find some best practices, and link to it here afterwards.
Valerie Adams
11:18
Thanks!
Liam
11:18
Have you both looked at crate sizing too?
Dave Speer
11:18
Yes. I need bigger than I had thought
Valerie Adams
11:19
I checked one website that said to measure the dog first.
Is bigger better, so they can move around?
