They have to be able to stand, and turn around comfortably.
Valerie Adams
11:20
Ok, thanks
Dave Speer
11:20
Bigger is better, but bigger is also $$$$$
11:21
The pet crate is measured as if it were cargo. The cost is determined that way.
Valerie Adams
11:21
Oh, good to know
Dave Speer
11:21
Of course if you use a pet company, they tack on a whole bunch of fees too.
Valerie Adams
11:21
Such as...
11:22
Dave, are you thinking of taking your pup on the same flight as yourself?
Liam
11:22
Yes, they do, but you can minimize the fees by doing as much of the prep work yourself.
11:23
Documentation fees, working with your vet fees, crate fee (you can provide one), etc.
Dave Speer
11:23
I am, yes.
Valerie Adams
11:23
That'll be nice
Dave Speer
11:23
Liam had told me that he has done that too.
Liam
11:24
I have, but it add's complexity to your day. You have to drop them off somewhere (near airport usually) the day of flight, well in advance of your own departure time.
11:25
I remember doing it in NY years ago, and I had no idea where I was going. If you can drop the day before, that is certainly one cost I wouldn't skimp on.
Make sure though, that a day of flight potty break is built in to whatever your arrangement is.
It probably already is, but be sure. Your pets will thank you :)
11:26
Have you considered time of travel and corresponding temperatures?
11:27
There are rules about not flying when it's too hot (probably too cold too).
Valerie Adams
11:27
Do you mean, day and night time outside temps for departure and arrival?
Liam
11:28
Exactly, yes.
It's not about the temp on the plane. I believe it's due to the temperature your pet might experience on the tarmac, or nearby, while waiting to board.
11:29
so, the airlines won't take them if it's too hot/cold
Valerie Adams
11:29
Just answered my question :)
Liam
11:29
just something to be aware of when planning their travel month

wife And I are moving in 2021, retiring to IRE. We do not own many “Things” beyond a bed and couple sofas. Since we will need to store our goods for up to a year befor purchasing a house in 2022, question is if the purchase prices of sofas and beds in IRE are that much higher that I should ship everything instead of selling now and buying later in Ireland
Liam
11:30
Have you both been on the Irish dept of Agriculture website for official info/guidance on this?
Cliff john
11:31
Sorry, I am GUEST above
Valerie Adams
11:31
I have not. We are planning on either selling our furniture or renting our US home furnished. We are only planning on being gone a few years.
Liam
11:31
Hi 'guest.
Oh, Hi John
I mean Cliff
:) sorry
Cliff John
11:31
No worries!
11:32
We will dump our electronics here and repurchase there.
Liam

Harvey Norman is a popular chain in Ireland if you want to get some reference points.
11:33
There's also Ikea, if you're looking for that type of stuff.
Shipping large things like sofas gets real pricey. I personally ditched most things like that, and re-bought.
