Do you expect an increase in Jameson Taillon's ESAL this season?
nubyjas wilborn
12:19
no, but I expect an increase in reality.

12:19
What is the team’s plan for working Polanco back in when healthy?
nubyjas wilborn
12:19
with caution.
Marvin Fein
12:19
Do you know if the team is looking at any of the unsigned free agents?
nubyjas wilborn
12:19
they're always looking...

Is Keller a legit possibility to be called up this year?
nubyjas wilborn
12:19
yes

Do you think the 3B and SS spots are up for grabs to the extent that even Tucker or Hayes could press for one? We are notoriously conservative in promotion (and Hayes isn't even on the 40-man), so I suspect it's a no, but could Tucker force the issue if he stands out in spring training?
nubyjas wilborn
12:20
anything is possible. But i doubt it.

With Hurdle saying that Kang is "in the best shape we’ve ever seen him in," is there any talk about seeing if he has the legs for shortstop?  A lineup (vs righties) with both Kang and Moran seems like it'd be too tempting to not even check if he can play short.
nubyjas wilborn
12:20
as of now, no, but if he and Moran hit, they could find some creative ways to get them both on the field.

I'm not negative overall, I just don't understand where the money goes with the payroll going down so much. The flexibility I have been hearing seems to not be going into the ML product...

Nutting told us today about the team doubling money spent in the DR facility. They also spend a lot on player development and other areas, He also acknowledged the team doesn't do a good enough job on letting people know that.

Newman and Gonzalez both look like throwbacks - like the 1970s shortstops who could field but couldn't hit their way out of a brown paper bag. Any change the Nut-ingdons make a play for one of the remaining SS free agents? Who's left? What do they have to lose (other than an automatic out every few innings)?
nubyjas wilborn
12:24
look at the projected WAR for the remaining shortstops. The team feels that either Newman of Gonzalez or a combo of can be as good as they would find elsewhere. They also won't say this but they like Tucker and he could get some run at some point.

What is the team’s biggest strength and weakness, in your opinion?
nubyjas wilborn
12:25
starting pitching and back end of the bullpen are strong. Weakness would be power

I have heard Jameson mentioned as a candidate for an extension.  How soon before he is traded.  One month or can he make it to the trade deadline?
nubyjas wilborn
12:25
he'll be in black and gold for awhile.

Outside of Liriano, which of the non rosters guys do you think have the best chance to stick?
nubyjas wilborn
12:25
Melky
James
12:26
Who do you like more to start at SS and 3B. Gonzalez vs Newman and Kang vs Moran?
nubyjas wilborn
12:26
Gonzalez and Kang... but again they haven't played a game yet...
James
12:26
I understand the money in the DR but are we to think that's accounting for $20-30 million??
nubyjas wilborn
12:26
I didn't say that, I honestly don't know. I'm trying to find all the numbers I can.
Truman
12:26
Just an observation, and there may not be an answer, but do u know why the pirates don’t have a distinguished spring training jersey like many other teams?
nubyjas wilborn
12:27
I'll find out.
Josh
12:27
Do you expect the Pirates to break camp with 8 relievers on Opening Day? If so, who gets the final bench spot in your eyes? Pablo Reyes?
nubyjas wilborn
12:27
That's tough to answer considering that games don't start until Saturday. But Reyes is highly thought of.
Tom in Latrobe
12:27
If they are spending more money on development and they haven’t seen the results in the field they want, have they made any changes to their process?
nubyjas wilborn
12:28
sometimes it takes a while
Truman
12:28
What was your favorite team growing up?
nubyjas wilborn
12:28
I've been told fans here wouldn't want to know lol
James
12:28
What's your best guess at a full healthy year for Kang? I'm hoping for big things but hard to say with him gone so long
nubyjas wilborn
12:29
It's a wild card. He does look extremely fit and good swinging in the cage. Footwork looks good in fielding drills. I don't want to put numbers but I can see him as an everyday player.
Justin
12:30
Does the team remain high on Burdi?  Does it seem like they'll trust him to pitch in important moments in games or will they try to mostly hide him until they can send him to AAA.
nubyjas wilborn
12:30
yes and he's gotta show and prove this spring.
Tom in Latrobe
12:30
So have they recently changed their process for player development or is the infusion of money new?
nubyjas wilborn
12:30
from what I've been told money has been increasing in those areas over the years.
