With Liriano in the fold, any chance we could see some kind of quasi-bullpenning in the early season with he and Lyles? Or do you expect a true fifth starter from day 1 with Lyles (or whoever else)? It would seem like the schedule allows some experimentation at least in the early part of the season, but pulling it off longer-term seems too difficult for any NL team. Having them pitch 3ish innings each and be available for another game a week seems like a doable experiment from a glance at the schedule.

I expect a true fifth starter. Lyles is the favorite, however, that doesn't mean Liriano can't get a spot start depending on the situation.

He's progressing, Looked good in live BP when I saw him on Monday. As far as a date, we still aren't sure. Maybe around early May

If the pirates are not in contention come the trade deadline do you see the trading Dickerson, Kang, Cervelli, possibly Vazquez knowing that payroll will jump the next few seasons with players starting to hit arbitration?

Any speculations about other Rookie Davis-type players who could be brought in as deep depth in AAA? There are some intriguing veterans kicking around, but it seems unlikely that they'd want minor league deals.

Does Kevin Newman have a shot at starting at short? I know he didn't do much w/the Bucs in Sept. but he hit .302 in Indy and has 650 AB in AAA. I'd like to see what he can do in the majors.
