In your opinion, which 3 prospects are having the best season to date in the Buccos minor league system?
nubyjas wilborn
9:48
Hey, that's actually tough because most of the prospects have been in the majors lol. But Bryan Reynolds impressed in the minors and has up in Pitt, Jason Martin has been good and I liked Geoff Hartlieb before he got hurt.

I’m really excited about the excellent start that Josh Bell has gotten off to but do you think local media should maybe put the brakes on all the projections and forecasts of Bell for a 40 homer season and comparisons to Stargell and Kiner. It’s been a great month and a half. Baseball is a long season.
nubyjas wilborn
9:49
I like where Bell is, but you're right it's a good start and a long season left. That said, I wouldn't be shocked if Bell has 30 or more homers when its all said and done.

We'll know more when Todd Tomcyzk addresses the media in Arizona later today.

So is Kang tradeable?
nubyjas wilborn

Good morning... What is the solution for the fifth starter?  Is Mitch Keller ready?  Stratton is not the starter answer... Is he?? Is there a trade coming?  A FA acquisition?  It is odd to me that I'm even asking this question.. Seems this challenge should have been solved already... There is certainly enough $$ to make an acquisition.
nubyjas wilborn
9:51
Good morning, to you as well. You don't bank on Archer and Taillon going down, but here we are. Lyles being good has helped. I don't think Keller is ready yet, but he's coming. It's also very tough to make trades at this point. Other than Marlins every NL thinks it has a chance.

I see Glasnow kicking tail and other pitchers doing the same post-Pirates...Is Ray Searage done? Is he no longer the pitcher whisperer?
nubyjas wilborn
9:52
It's all relative. Nobody talks about how well Lyles is doing in comparison to his previous career.
PGH
9:52
So, lots of movement at the PG. Is Jason Mackey taking your spot and you are moving to hockey or are you staying on with the Pirates? It is all so hard to keep track of!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nubyjas wilborn
9:54
Ha, imagine how I feel, I just got here in January. But, Brink is going home to be a family man so to speak with the Enterprise gig. Mackey takes his spot, and I remain in mine. God willing and the creek don't rise as my granny used to say.

Have you read George Plimpton's book Out of My League? It is a great book that hilariously captures the glory of athletics and the pain of defeat!
nubyjas wilborn
9:54
yes, it is wonderful!

Is it true that the only thing that kept Jim Thorpe from being a HOF baseball player was his inability to hit the curveball? If so, do you think he would have been a Top 10 all-time player? Thanks, NW!
nubyjas wilborn
9:55
idk about the curve, but I would assume his athleticism would've translated or as Clint would say "his stuff would play on this level"
Cutch
9:55
Any chance Cutch comes back to finish his career in Pittsburgh?
nubyjas wilborn
9:55
anything is possible, but I don't think he or the Pirates are worried about it now..

Hello! Thank you for the chats. Any chance the bring Keller up this month to throw into rotation? Tucker and Reynolds have been a huge boost and I think Keller could be a similar situation.

You're welcome and thank you for engaging. I haven't heard any talk about it, but sometimes necessity makes things happen.

What's the solution to the pitching problems? Kingham and Brault aren't getting it done as starters. After they dig a hole as starters Clint calls for the white flag bullpen guys, who more often than not dig a deeper hole.
nubyjas wilborn
9:57
Getting Archer back is a start, that would push either Brault or Kingham back to the pen.
HOF

Should Jack Morris have been elected to the Baseball HOF? He never once beat the Pirates, nor did he ever score a win vs. a single NL team.
nubyjas wilborn
9:58
I personally hated Jack Morris as a child, so no. Nah, just kidding, I mean I did hate him but he had a great career and won some big games.

Is time running out for Clint Hurdle? Could the jolly old skipper be in his last year with the Buccos?
nubyjas wilborn
9:59
This team with all the injuries sits at 3 games above .500 I'd say Clint has done some great managing (and no this isn't me drinking the Kool-aid) but he's worked with what he has and done well.

Hi Nubyjas, I was reading in one of your previous chats (which are all great!) that you are a big comedy movie fan. We lost two good ones this week - Doris Day and Tim Conway. Can you mention your favorite work from both of those Comedy Legends?   Thanks for the GREAT CHATS!!!  (P.S.  I'm guess you might choose the Dorf Baseball Movie since you cover baseball.)

More on the pitching woes. Great start last night by Joe. Somewhere there's got to be a fifth starter available. Rich Rod and Feliz gotta go. Giants have guys who are probably available, as well as the Orioles Mychal Givens. NH can't keep crossing his fingers and hoping things just work out. Or will he?
nubyjas wilborn

It's always harder to make moves this early, But maybe Derek Holland, since u mentioned San Fran, And Rich Rod has gotten better as the season has gone on.

Why didn't the Pirates select Mike Trout when they had the chance? Bad scouting? HIndsight 20-20?

Nubyjas, are you of the right age to remember seeing Pride of the Yankees starring Gary Cooper in theaters? It was a great experience, fans cheering in their seats, tossing popcorn in the air at the exciting parts! Anyway, what other baseball movies are as exciting as Pride of the Yankees? My grandson isn't interested in black and white movies. Thanks!

I'm not THAT old, but I have seen the movie. My fave baseball movie is Major League.

Hey- Wilborn! You are nearly 15 minutes late for your own chat! C'mon man! This is why so many of us Buccos fans aren't fans of your work for the PG! Get your act together, bud. You have a lot of potential, but it is the little things that make or break folks in the sports writing business. We're rooting for you, pal, but you gotta put in the work and get to your chats on time!!! Why are you late?

I'm chatting live from the airport, Sorry, y'know checking a bag, getting "randomly selected" for security check even though I have precheck will make you late, oh and connecting to airport wifi. I humbly apologize. As far as people not liking my work, bless their hearts.
