We all need to remember that the broadcast isn't for us. People who come to FG are gonna watch the game no matter who's calling it. It's casuals that ESPN needs to attract.
AvatarDan Szymborski
7:49
But I think there are things they can tell casuals that casuals will be interested in.
7:50
A-Rod was just taking out of his ass. I mean "Robinson Cano texted me that the team has great chemistry," sounds like a parody of a broadcaster that one of us would write.

joining in on the broadcasting roast... I had to mute the stream and turn on a radio station. Wow that really improved the experience

Is it surprising that Tsutsugo is batting 3rd against a lefty?

Didn't Fangraphs do a local team broadcaster ranking at one point? Would be curious how that would look now
AvatarDan Szymborski
7:51
A few times I believe

if ken griffey jr. was a playable character in super smash bros., would you main him?

Depends on hsi skill!

To be honest broadcasts have become a lot more friendly to FG type people over the last few years so I'm not gonna knock progress

But Cano is so consisstent and just know how to play the game, like Dave Concepción. I remember this little guy from the Angles named Epstein boy did that guy have grit.

Hey Eric, do you know what writers are doing for food? I assume they don't have the usual options. Are people bringing in their food? I guess I could ask. I assume that if I go down to Cincy they're not going to open the bourbon slushies stand just for me.
7:53
I guess I could just *ask* one of the writers at a game, but I just thought of it.
Eric A Longenhagen
7:54
Lol, I actually don't know. I haven't gone to Chase yet.
Mr Rocktober
7:54
How hard is it these days to get press credentials to cover a game in person?
AvatarDan Szymborski
7:55
It's a little tricky right now because there are only 30 spots *total* per game, and that includes the photographers.
Eric A Longenhagen
7:55
Oppo gap double for Michael Brosseau, a guy I whiffed on as a prospect. TB on the board.
AvatarDan Szymborski
7:56
So I'm not doing it for a few reasons. One, I don't want to take a spot from a beat writer or photog who *needs* to be there. And two, I don't think I have a nything, but why create extra risk for myself or another writer if I don't absolutely *have to* be there?
Normally, with a BBWAA card, for regular games you just show up.

Would a permanent 16 game playoff format destroy the game?  or at least seriously hurt it

Matt Boyd done for the day. Hard-throwing Jose Cisnero replacing him. Winker hitting for Davidson in the 6th against him.
AvatarDan Szymborski
7:57
And I worry about myself too to a degree. I don't have any specific illness that I'm aware of, but I *am* obese and I *am* 42 now, so there's some elevated risk that I wouldn't have had if I was 20 years younger.

Eric, I remember being surprised when Brosseau was called up and stuck because you had (almost?) never mentioned him. What's the one-sentence blurb?

I just get sad when announcers quote RBI’s and whatnot. How are casual fans supposed to learn about “new stats” if they’re never taught. At least they have got kinda better over the years. Reds broadcast just said he’s trying to learn newfangled stats like WAR. At least he’s trying... sorta. ._.
Ugh the AVG/HR/RBI stat line they show for every batter irks me
Aspergilius fumigatus

Ian Happ: hits one home run. Matt Vasgersian: If this is the Ian Happ the Cubs are getting they will be a lot to handle!

thoughts on Chili Time? There or skyline?
AvatarDan Szymborski

I've never eaten Chili Time. I abhor Skyline. I hate the whole Cincy style.

AVG/HR/RBI are still pretty common in Fantasy baseball, which is of interest to a lot of casual fans.
