I think the issue of traditional vs. advanced stats is really systemic... I worked at a sports summer camp throughout high school and every single kid would cite batting average as the go-to stat for a player's skill. They are taught at a very young age (by sports media like ESPN and/or role models) how to evaluate players and then once those are solidified it is very hard to open their mind.

I grew up in an old school baseball family where wins and RBI were king. That didn't stop me from embracing advanced stats when I was old enough. High schoolers, overall, are still pretty dumb. Don't give up on them.
