Do you expect Mike Elias to make a major move before the season begins or will The Orioles start the season as it is?
Darragh McDonald
5:19
I doubt there's a big move coming at this point. There aren't really any notable free agents left, unless you count Profar. Big trades are rare at this time of year.
CLASSIC!
5:19
Can you foresee the Orioles trading away veterans even if they are in the playoff hunt?
Darragh McDonald
5:20
I suppose it could be possible if a prospect was forcing the issue somewhere, sure.
5:21
Like, maybe they move Hays to make room for Cowser, but then also add pitching.

What happens when Angelos dies? Does the team leave the family and does the MASN contract get thrown out? Could the team be relocated to Nashville?

I read up on the Angelos' quarrel... and was interested to see that the stadium lease is expiring soon and a 5 year extension plan was nixed. They say they're working on a longer 10-15 extension... but just how close and serious are the O's to moving??  Is Charlotte in play??
Darragh McDonald
5:22
Got a few questions about relocation and I don't know that it's realistically in play.
The not signing the lease thing, as far as I can tell, was about getting a longer deal in place and qualifying for a loan.
5:23
And I'm not an expert on American laws, since I'm Canadian, but I don't think a corporate contract would be tied to the life of one individual like that.

Any tips from yourself or O's fans for an out-of-towner trying to see a game at Camden?  Nearby restaurants, hotels or sights to see??  Readers responding in comments will be much appreciated!

I haven't been to Camden myself, unfortunately, but I'll throw out some suggestions from others!

With the new more balanced schedule could all teams in AL East be over .500 ?
Darragh McDonald
5:24
I think it's possible, sure.

For nearby stuff to Camden - Babe Ruth birthplace/museum is nearby.

Whoops, wrong question.

Right off the top of your head: next season Baltimore wins the WS (playoffs are a crapshoot, sure, but I think that makes this question fun. Yay, variance!). I wasn’t born yet in ‘83 & I’m the most excited now that I have ever been at the near-future potential of this happening. Showalter’s over-performing teams of early last decade were fun at times but always felt fluky. This feels different… right… right?

I agree that any team that makes the postseason can win it all, so any postseason contender is a World Series contender.
Atlanta only won 88 games in 2021 then got the title, for a recent example.

Do you think the Dodgers and O's matchup on a trade? LA needs middle infield and BAL needs SP. LA has tons of SP prospects and BAL has tons of MI.
Darragh McDonald
5:28
It can see it, sure.

Camden Yards - Pickles Pub right across the street from the stadium. Great place to drink some beers on a nice day before the game.

Do you see Urias as the odd man out on a regular basis on the IF?
Darragh McDonald
5:29
Maybe at some points but injuries are inevitable and he'll likely get some time if he's not the injured one.

If Milwaukee is out of it by June, can you see the O's make a trade for Woodruff and/or Burns?
Darragh McDonald
5:30
Seems plausible to me, sure.

Which of these factors plays the bigger reason for the team's modest 2023 payroll?
  1. Not signing expected free agents
  2. Not having a signed long-term lease in place
  3. A potential sale of the team when the owner passes
  4. Team has been saving money to extend their best prospects (Rutschman, Henderson, etc)
  5. Some other reason I'm missing
Darragh McDonald
5:31
I would guess number 1, just because Elias was so confident in what he promised back in August.

Hi Darragh, really love the free content you guys provide daily.  Do you think the relatively quiet off-season was more a product of external factors, ie, park lease, possible ownership changes, court disputes ovr network revenue, etc?  Or more of a realization by Elias that big signings would block young talent and stall the evaluation process?
Darragh McDonald
5:32
Similar answer to the previous question.
If they didn't want to block young players, then Elias could have come out and said that. Instead, he promised a "significant" increase in payroll.
5:33
And I don't think the park lease or ownership stuff popped up out of nowhere.

Are there any bullpen upgrades still available in free agency or do we need to roll with the AAA crew if last years cast is injured or ineffective?
Darragh McDonald
5:34
Old friend Zack Britton is still out there.
5:35
It's mostly injury reclamation guys at this point. Britton, Giles, Knebel.

If expectations come in close to early predictions, what is the most likely finish for AL East teams?  I'm thinking Toronto, New York, Tampa, Orioles, Red Sox.  Boston's totally disjointed, we-have-no-plan off season couldn't have fooled us, could it?
Darragh McDonald
5:36
I would probably put them in a similar order to you, but I would also probably give a different answer tomorrow. I think it'll be a really fascinating division.

Zack Britton and Mychal Givens back together in the O’s pen would sure feel warm and fuzzy… but what does Britton realistically still have in tank?
Darragh McDonald
5:36
That's the big question. He had a showcase for clubs a couple weeks ago and hasn't signed yet.
