Steven Latasa-Nicks, CEO of the e-commerce website Slide Shop that sells digital marketing assets, points out that his perspective for today will be informed much like Carla’s, with a career that's a little bit varied. He shares his experience in management consulting and at a big organization. Now, his company is trying to really disrupt the more traditional markets in the same way Squarespace and Wix have disrupted what's on the web development side, but more on the marketing side.

George Creppy, Communications Executive in Global Risk Management at Bank of America answers the first question, "Back in time, we used to send out memos when I was in communication when we were doing desk drops. Now we need to think about tweeting and socialization and larger institutions. I am texting friends and not necessarily thinking about all that needs to be done. It's exhilarating and ever-changing and we would love more people with skills.”

Reshan Richards, CEO and Co-founder of a small software company in the US, says his angle on communication and digital is that his academic work and his company which spawned from it are focused on how emerging technologies, especially those which allow people to be more visual and mediate distance in time, can be used to support or amplify the type of connection that one might have with the person sitting in person with somebody but separated by distance.

“We may make a digital whiteboard platform, but it’s focused on the kind of human intimate closeness of building and sharing ideas,” says Reshan Richards.

Carla Wilke concludes that one could get involved in things that may not work out quickly. She notes that one of the most sought after attributes in digital marketing is data, good data and translating it to something compelling. Her advice is to speak to as many people as one can, and intern in as many places as one can.
"Give yourself some time. Every employee wants to know they are getting returns on their investment," she ends.
