All right let’s get started

I've always been of the opinion that the difference between the worst team in the NFL and the best team is a lot closer than most fans think. That's why I think people made a far bigger deal out of the Jaguars beating the Colts than it really was and that the Steelers chances of winning on Sunday night are far better than most people think. Obviously, KC is a better team and will likely win. But if they played the game 100 times, I don't think KC wins more than 60 times and likely closer to 55.

12:05
Well I agree to a point but football is a game of matchups. For instance I think with a healthy Derrick Henry the Titans are a much tougher matchup for the Steelers than the Chiefs given the Steelers struggles stopping the run. Even without Henry had they just kept running the ball they would have beat the Steelers. So the talent is closer than people think but it still comes down to matchups. The Jaguars benefitted greatly that Carson Wentz seems to be a choker under pressure. And even when they l

played earlier in the year in Indy, it was a tough game

More than a month now since Mark Whipple resigned, two weeks since the Peach Bowl, and still no offensive coordinator. Every other staff in the country seems to be filling its vacancies. Someone needs to tell Nar-snoozy to come out of hibernation, quit worrying about his extension, and get someone onboard. Or does the fact this will be his fifth OC in what will be his 8th season in 2022 scare off some possible candidates?
Zeise
12:07
Not true. And really why do you care? They will hire a guy when they hire a guy. There will be a lot of movement in a few weeks after signing day. A lot of assistants stay until signing day then leave and move around. It is the biggest nothing burger story.

I am not a Tomlin fan, but he will go into the HOF, which makes him a 'great coach'. And I never thought this team with one of the toughest schedules in the league would make it to 9-7-1 and the playoffs. What are his qualities that he continues to prod winning records from his teams, especially this season, or is it mostly a byproduct of having a HOF QB?
Zeise
12:09
I think he gets his guys to play for him. I think he gets his guys to the idea of fighting for every inch and they know he has their back. The great coaches are the ones who can motivate and inspire. The X and O stuff is usually overrated. All of them know Xs and Os

Hi Paul. There were some people on this chat that suggested that the Steelers should lose their final two games to get a better draft pick. I won’t get into the many reasons on why that was stupid. I think that they should do a self-ban from these chats for at least a week. I mean, shouldn’t you have at least a little bit of sports knowledge to participate? Thanks.
Zeise
12:10
Well people with a little sports knowledge understand tanking is what teams are doing these days. So suggesting the Steelers do it isn’t that off the wall. I don’t agree with it and don’t think it was the right approach but I understand it

Paul, Your predicted score for Sunday night's match-up?
Zeise
12:11
I think it will be something like 24-20
Travelers paradise
12:11
Hi Paul, Thank you. I feel Washignton and Witherspoon  have clutch play potential.  I hope to see both on the field more, your thoughts on them?
Zeise
12:14
I agree that Witherspoon has made some big plays recently and seems to be coming into his own in terms of being comfortable with what the Steelers are asking him to do. Washington hasn’t had a good season and I fear his confidence is totally shot because the coaches have lost faith in him and he is buried on the depth chart

Love your FAN show but your persona on the AM show is detestable. Tell us that's not the real you.
Zeise
12:16
“You have a different world view and opinion on topics than I do so you are detestable” is exhibit A of what is wrong with this world and this country. Maybe try critical thinking instead of searching for an echo chamber and you will be a less detestable listener

As a Pitt guy, I love that we could attract a QB with the pedigree of Slovis from USC but in the long run don't you think relying too heavily on transfers will hurt recruiting?  Surely Patti and Beville cannot be pleased and will probably be looking to transfer out.  How do they recruit future QB's when they obviously jump at a potentially more attractive option via transfer?
Zeise
12:20
Well transfers are the new way to recruit. You basically are using other programs as farm systems. They get to develop kids and deal with them through their freshman nonsense and they get a mature, more finished product. High school recruiting is still the lifeblood but more and more coaches have figured out that it if you can fill positions - especially quarterback or skill positions - with guys who have some experience you are closer to being good than not

Do you think that pro sports leagues with salary caps still need a draft? Bad teams usually lack good players who make big bucks so those teams theoretically could lure collegiate stars with bigger salaries than successful teams. Let's use the Timberwolves as an example. Say they get first pick and manage to get the best player. That's just one good addition and the next guy they draft theoretically would be the 31st best. Without a draft they could make a run at not just the best player but maybe the 3rd best, 9th best, etc.
Zeise
12:22
No they don’t want it to become the wild Wild West coming out of college and I get it. Some teams would never get top players. This at least ensures every team had the opportunity to get a top player like a LeBron James or Trevor Lawrence

National media is fawning on the job MT did getting to the playoffs with this motley crew and they event mention the Ben-less 2019 with the Duck as another example. Here, half the people want him fired. What's the real deal?
Zeise
12:25
Any discussion of Mike Tomlin and the job he did that does not acknowledge his very heavy influence on the roster in place, the fact that he mangled the center spot, the punter spot and made a horrific hire at offensive coordinator. The Steelers also wouldn’t have needed the miracles they had Sunday if they didn’t get blown out by a bad Vikings team that just fired the coach.

Hey Paul, I've timed a fairly decent season pretty well, yes? It took me four years to make a play or two, but now that it has occurred, will your local team regret not signing me to that 5th year option?
Zeise
12:26
Nope. They can sign you to a long term deal now if they so choose. We will see how they feel about you!

I read where Texas football boosters have pledged  millions in NIL money and it got them a No. 1 recruiting class. So what was under the table is on the table. Should a place like Pitt be worried?
Zeise
12:30
No a place like Pitt needs to pony up!
Joe
12:30
Why do NFL coaches over complicate things? If I were Andy Reid I would simply hand the ball off on every snap and watch my RBs go wild. Could the Steelers consistently stop them from gaining 10 yards on 3 carries? Had Tennesse, Cleveland, and Baltimore taken this approach the Steelers season would have mercifully ended on Sunday.
Zeise
12:34
I agree the Titans, Browns and Ravens offensive coaching staffs out thought themselves those games. And they handed the Steelers gift after gift. As for KC I’m not sure you are taking the ball out of Mahomes hand that much.
Chase
12:34
Paul, is great route running that difficult? The good ones appear to run straight at the defender until the last moment, then they make a cut in one direction or another. I'm thinking even a young Zeise could have run a respectable route or two in his day?
Zeise
12:35
It is because it is attention to detail. Like anything the difference between good and great is usually the attention to detail. And the great ones understand it, the good ones understand it but don’t pay enough attention to detail when executing it
Overtime
12:35
What's your preference order for football overtime formats' NFL, previous college, or current college and why? And is there a different format that you'd create and use?
Zeise
12:37
They way overthink this. I think for playoff games it should remain as is and they just play until a winner emerges. But for regular season games they should use the hockey model of a shootout only instead of a shootout go to the college format from the 10 yard line and no kicking is allowed.
12:38
So in regular season games you keep the current format as is and at the end of 10 minutes if it is still tied you go to some version of the college format
Mercury
12:38
I know all teams lose players to injuries, but if the Steelers had healthy Ju Ju, Alualua and Tuitt how much better would they be?
Zeise
12:38
I don’t think JuJu adds much. The other two changes their defense completely
Steeltown
12:38
Paul, so does Ben get the keys to the offense this week…finally? Also, isnt there anyone on the practice squad that can get deep, run a decent route and catch the damn ball?
Zeise
12:39
I mean I don’t know that this thing we do where “now the offense is working so Ben must be calling plays” is correct. I find it funny that there are some convinced the bad plays are all called by Canada, the good plays are called by Ben

Paul, do you prefer firm and fast conditions in which your 225 yard carry drives have a chance to flirt with the 250 range?  Or do you prefer the typical muddy western PA conditions in which your low, semi-skulled irons plug in the back portion of the green, thus giving you a chance to two putt for a bogey?

Paul,if you were the Steeler's GM and or Coach, what would your draft card look like through all of the rounds.
