An insult? I don’t insult people! I would think there are probably some physical therapy he could do to try and strengthen his elbow some

Paul, excellent assessment of Tomlin in the mailbag.  It seems nobody is talking about Omar Khan ... I think we need to figure him out first.  (If Colbert isn't planning on sticking around long-term) I'd like to see them promote Khan and then give Tomlin the option of VP football and business administration or leaving.  What are your thoughts?
Zeise
12:43
My assessment is Khan has been told he won’t be the next GM and that job will likely go to Brandon Hunt and that’s why Khan is out interviewing
12:44
Again that’s just my opinion of it, I’m not reporting that as fact for those who might be confused
And based on some of the developments in reporting this week, there are a lot of people confused

Did you have the opportunity to interact with Randy Bates when your son played for Pitt? He received a huge honor this week as the assistant coach of the year. He must be a truly good man.
Zeise
12:46
Yes l did, quite often. What a great person, very intelligent, really cares about his players. He is exactly the kind of coach every dad should want their kid to play for. I always knew he had Elijah’s back and he as teaching him the right things. He is a great coach and an even better role model

6-3 loss to the Flyers Wednesday. Just shrug off an opening day defensive disaster, or a bad omen of things to come?
Zeise
12:46
Opening day, nothing more or nothing less

MT went real quick from "not ready to make any decisions" to making a decision on coaches. I think those moves he did make were needed. Now the question - who are prime candidates for OC?
Zeise
12:47
I don’t know who he would consider but I bet Matt Canada will be on that list
TPhunter
12:47
Chances of a Ravens-Browns AFC championship game? There aren't enough tranquilizers in the state to calm Steelers fans if that happens.
Zeise
12:49
I like the Ravens to win but think the Chiefs will win. But I do like the Ravens to beat the Chiefs

While not a popular opinion amongst most Steelers fans, I was a fan of Bruce Arians as OC.  Although a lot of factors go into the success of an NFL team, the Steelers haven't had much playoff success since he was fired.  Was there anything about his play calling, game planning, etc that is missing since he left?  The dude has had as much or more success than Tomlin as a HC since he left.
Zeise
12:51
I liked Arians but if he stuck around Roethlisberger’s career would have been five years shorter! That’s the problem - Ben got hit too much with Arians in charge

Loved your response to the trolling Browns fan in the mailbag. Also thank you for your objective, non-apologetic analysis of the Steelers. You praise when they earn it, critique when they don't.
Zeise
12:53
Thanks I really do truly and be fair and realistic. Some of these Browns fans have lost their minds but they won so they can enjoy it!

Read your article on ending the Big Ben era and not sure where I stand. The problem is that while 40 million is certainly too much for the quarterback, 20 million of that is already spent. Even if Ben is gone, the Steelers will still have too much invested in that position.
Zeise
12:54
His salary cap hit makes it tough and is primary among what the Steelers can and want to do with him
Tom G.
12:54
Paul, any chance we could trade Bob Nutting to NY Mets for Steve Cohen and a warm six pack and a chipped ham sandwich?
Zeise
12:54
Ha ha - I’m not sure that deal would be accepted!
CoalportKid
12:54
What's easier to do before next season. Fix the run game, or fix Ben's consistency issues?
Zeise
12:55
The run fame needs a complete overhaul so I would say Roethlisbergers consistency
Blue Collar Jeff

Paul--Thanks for the chat. Both you and Ron Cook had excellent articles earlier this week about the Steelers embarrassing lack of success over the past decade. With apologies in advance for the Tomlinisms, why is the ownership so willing to accept varsity football in the regular season and only JV football in the post-season? If having a set of non-losing seasons is now the "standard", then let me off at the next stop. I'd appreciate your thoughts.
Zeise
12:56
The Steelers wear stability as a badge of honor. I think it holds them back at times but they would argue they are one of the most consistent organizations in sports
TPhunter
12:56
With Fichtner gone, does Ben hang it up?
Zeise
12:56
I don’t think that
12:57
is going to be the determining factor
RJT
12:57
Steelers offense couldn’t run the ball, but letting Shaun sarrett go kind of seems like a scapegoat. I watched guys on the oline get no push at all on running plays. Seems more like a personel issue than a coaching issue.
Zeise
12:58
It is all scapegoating but that’s how it goes in that business. You either perform or your gone.
Spanky Macfarland
12:58
With the news the Steelers dropped 3 coaches, do you know of anyone on their radar as yet?
Zeise
12:58
No it is way to early for that
Gene
12:58
If Ben does retire do you think they roll with Rudolph, draft a QB, or go free agency to find one?
Zeise
12:59
They would probably roll with Rudolph and look for a veteran backup to sign and if the right guy is there at 24 when they draft, draft a guy too

It is amazing to see Juju's popularity plummet at least among the fans.  One would think athletes would tone down the social media crap and posterboard comments given the fact that most of us could care less.  i never thought i would say this but i think it is time to move on.  Mostly because I bought his jersey!
Zeise
1:00
I don’t know that his popularity has declined that much. I just think his act has worn a little thin that’s all. He is popular but they can’t afford him any more
RJT
1:01
I think the Steelers stay in house and promote Matt Canada. I don’t think it would make sense to bring in a completely new system with Ben in his 18th year or have a new system with Mason Rudolph in his first year as a starter. What day you?
Zeise
1:01
It makes sense to me but again if they were to
1:02
worry about continuity for one year why not stick with Fichtner?
Patrick

What goes into hiring coordinators.? Does Tomlin discuss it with Colbert and/or ownership and who has final say?
