Sorry for the delay, folks ... Paul will be joining us around 1 p.m. today
Zeise
12:29
Actually I’m here early! We had a slight miscommunication and it was probably my fault (hey even the best make mistakes) but we are ready to roll….

Any predictions on the when the MLB season might start?
Zeise
12:30
Yes. I believe it will start two, maybe three weeks late. I don’t think it will start on time and don’t think we will get to May 1st without baseball.

Paul, I'm in my early 70's.  I figure I have 10 to 15 years left.  Am I going to live to see a Pirate appearance in a World Series?
Zeise
12:30
What’s that one wrestlers line “I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news…..”

The recent mini run of wins by Pitt has heartened me somewhat from standpoint the kids are sticking together and playing hard which is partly at least a reflection on Capel. And if Horton and Sibande played all year probably record might be reversed. Where do you stand right now in terms of your confidence level Capel can lead Pitt to 18-20 wins seasons.
Zeise
12:31
Well I have consistently said that Jeff Capel is doing a good job this year. He has turned it around and has something to build on now. The future I think is bright

12:32
Was the Harden for Simmons trade a good one? Do you think a change of scenery for Simmons sorts out whatever his mental issues in Philadelphia were?
Zeise
12:33
One team got a guy you can’t win with because he isn’t a team first guy. The other team got a total bust who is the same player now he was in 10th grade. In short there were no winners here only losers

Is baseball trying to manuver themselves into irrelevance or is it just a byproduct of their stupidity? Idiot fans like me will continue to follow the sport and be fans but they're in danger of becoming an after thought in the sports world.
Zeise
12:35
I would think so. I honestly believe they are so arrogant that they don’t think this kind of stuff isn’t turning people off

12:35
I see James Harrison is first yestvHOF
Zeise
12:36
No. I think he may get in but I don’t know he was at that elite level quite long enough for voters to make him a lock. There will be some debate
Retire21
12:37
I see James Harrison is first year HOF eligible and LC Greenwood is on the Veterans list. Would you vote for them if you had a vote?
Zeise
12:37
Greenwood yes. He should already be in. Harrison may be like Hines Ward, close but not quite

Paul, let's consider the Steelers are facing a choice between OL and DL with their first pick.  The Bengals likely will be targeting OL. (Bills, too)(  How much (if at all) will/should the needs of other teams in the division shape their choice?  If we need both, why not first take what our opponent needs the most?
Zeise
12:40
Why not just take the best player. So if you have a second round trade on the top Oline guy available and a first round grade on the top Dline guy - you are gonna take the lower graded guy to keep the Bengals from getting him? Come on. You draft who you can draft that will make you better and don’t worry what others are doing

I’m a Duquesne hoops fan. Duquesne and Pitt were going in the opposite direction. Now they’re going in the opposite opposite direction. Any hope?
Zeise
12:42
I have no idea what is going on at Duquesne but it is a disaster. They are awful and that’s a shame because they seemed to be getting closer. I don’t know what’s next. Keith Dambrot is an excellent coach but he needs some roster stability to have a chance to build a program
Retire21
12:43
In the 60s next.
Zeise
12:43
Allegedly this weekend which means dust off the clubs and head to Cedarbrook or Manor Valley or Oglebay …..

12:44
Great to see that performance last night by Pitt! It's amazing what happens when a team makes some shots. It's good to see them playing better down the stretch compared with what's happened down the stretch in the last few years. That has to bode well for next season?
Zeise
12:44
Yes they need to build on this though as we have seen that’s been the issue. I mean if a couple of these guys decide to leave then he is starting over again. So the key is he needs to keep his guys around
Retire21
12:44
in the 60s next week. You teeing it up?
Zeise
12:45
As I said, absolutely
Jay Daven
12:45
Paul, has anyone interviewed Mason Rudolph since the season ended?  It looks like the coaches, the team, and the reporters have no confidence with him.  Your thoughts?
Zeise
12:45
They better hope they get someone else and better hope they get someone else who can actually play. Because if Rudolph is the guy they have a lot of work to do convincing him they believe in him
Scott
12:46
Why is the NFL compensatory pick formula shrouded in such secrecy? It seems to be more closely guarded than the nuclear codes. It seems like the 32 GMs have never seen it and have no idea what to expect. The lack of transparency is astounding.
Zeise
12:46
I don’t think it is secrecy I think it is a formula that most people don’t understand!!

12:46
Will Jeff Capel ever move Pitt BB into the top ten? If the college game is about recruiting, why would a highly regarded  prospect choose Pitt over other ACC schools.
Zeise
12:48
I think he is building something. It is getting better. One step at a time
Bernard
12:48
Interesting article regarding the decline of ACC hoops.  How much of that is due to the improvement and increased focus on hoops in the SEC?   And how would you rank the various conferences at this point?
Zeise
12:50
I think it is huge - the SEC has done more to invest in basketball. They have hired better coaches and the ACC right now is in a down cycle because of legendary coaches either at the end or retired
Jay Daven
12:51
Paul, how far do the Pens go in the playoffs?  I think they are in the finals because they have  talent on all 4 lines.  What do you think?
Zeise
12:52
I think they make a long run. I could see them getting to the finals or even winning it all
Bernard
12:53
The last two Super Bowls the team with the better OL won.  Mahomes and Burrow both struggled b/c they were under pressure.  Doesn't that further the argument the Steelers need to focus on OL in draft rather than QB or other positions of need?
Zeise
12:54
I don’t disagree at all - and the O-line is so important to everything that a team does. But here is something else to consider - the team with the better defensive line also won the last two Super Bowls
Dan
12:55
Second-and one at midfield and the Bengals couldn't convert - ouch!  Blaming the officials doesn't hide that they were in the driver's seat! Bengals blew it?
Zeise
12:55
especially since your best running back was on the sideline!
