Stash from Pitcarin

I was vehemently opposed to Mason Rudolph as starting in 2022 as I think he stinks. But I am coming to the realization he is better than reaching for a Matt Corral or Sam Howell. And better than a free agent retread. Let's see what his ceiling is and draft a QB next season. What say you, Mason or say Andy Dalton?
Zeise
12:33
Even if you take a rookie QB you can essentially redshirt him and let him learn from Rudolph and Haskins. And many think Coral may be the best of this bunch in the end

12:34
Working on the premise that he'll be here, and, yes, the list is long, but what is the most immediate need Jeff Capel must address in the offseason?
Zeise
12:34
I think it would be very simple - a true point guard and a shooter (preferably a scorer who can really shoot it)
yikes
12:35
Do you think Mason Rudolph lost his credibility and affection of his teammates after getting bonked on the head by Myles Garrett?
Zeise
12:36
No I think he lost credibility with them when he couldn’t beat the Lions

12:36
So Brian Flores just happened to land in the Steelers lap, home of the Rooney Rule? Seems curious.
Zeise
12:37
No he called Mike Tomlin for advice and By the end of the conversation they talked about a job

12:38
Some of your colleagues are too serious. Thanks for keeping sports fun.
Zeise
12:39
People can accuse me of a lot of things - one thing nobody can ever accuse me of us taking myself too seriously. I talk about sports for a living and have fun doing it

Baseball is like my ex’s, out of site of out mind. The longer this plays out and the longer we go w out baseball, makes me need it less and less. Have to be some real idiots doing the negotiations. Thoughts?
Zeise
12:40
Ha ha ha. The only difference is your ex’s keep getting a check from you every month! I’m so tired of this labor stoppage I can’t even get worked up about it

When you have guests on your show to discuss things like Pitt sports, steeler, etc. do they get paid compensation for their appearances ?
Zeise
12:43
If I told you I would have to kill you!! No seriously the simple answer is there isn’t a simple answer. Some do, some don’t, some get paid by a sponsor, some get paid by their outlet ….

Paul, I'm guessing the Pirates won't lose 100 games if the season is delayed,,..
Zeise
12:45
If they play 150 games or more they are absolutely a threat to get to 100 losses!
Hillary
12:45
Why don't we just send Trump to Russia and end this madness?
Zeise
12:46
No, we need to send John Rambo and General Braddock. I mean didn’t Rambo stop the invasion of Afghanistan already???
Mike
12:46
What would happen if Greg Lloyd and James Harrison met Putin in a dark alley?
Zeise
12:47
It depends - is he wearing a Browns or Ravens jersey??
Where’s My Clark Bar?
12:48
Heading to the Women's US Open in Pine Needles, one of my favorite tickets in modern sports. Would you bet Annika makes the cut?
Zeise
12:49
No she is going to be surprised by how good these young players are. I think it would almost be as incredible as Mickelson winning a Major last year if she makes the cut

Do you think the Steelers should consider trading for Carson Wentz?  After all he was responsible for the Steelers making the playoffs this year (by losing to Jacksonville in the Colts’ season final). Perhaps he could lead the Steelers to the playoffs again in 2022.
Zeise
12:49
Well if they want to ensure they are losing the biggest games, then yes. He lost me when he choked against the Jaguars this year
Jarvis Ragdoll Jones
12:50
Of the guys who started on the OL last year, can you please rank them in order of long term starter potential? Thanks!!
Zeise
12:52
Wow. I would go Dotson, Green, Moore Jr. - beyond those three I have no idea

NHL trade deadline is less than a month away. What do the Penguins need to have a legit shot at another cup, and how much do they pay for the upgrade(s)?
Zeise
12:53
Secondary scoring and a backup goalie.
Joe
12:53
Nobody seems to respect or like Mason Rudolph as an NFL QB. What's a 80's hair band comparison to Mason? Warrant?
Zeise
12:53
No, Warrant is very popular. I would say Winger! Better than you think but never given respect
The Real TP Hunter
12:53
Pirates fans might get another break. They only had to watch 60 miserable games during 2020 thanks to the pandemic, and the idiot owners and players might cancel 30 or 40 games this season. When it comes to MLB and Pittsburgh, less is more, correct?
Mike
12:54
Why so many people down on Louis Riddick as New GM, I love listening to the guy?
Zeise
12:55
Because there are many better options who actually have recent experience at running a team. Why go with a guy who hasn’t done it for almost a decade.

12:56
Can the Steelers find another Flozell Adams ?
Zeise
12:56
You mean a second round pick who turns into a Pro Bowl player? Yeah I suppose
Mark
12:57
Hi Paul.  The Pirates are building up their minor leagues, which is great.  The problem is, almost every other team are building up their minor and major league teams.  Also, they have no one close to a Cutch, Bonds, Clemente, or Stargell in their system.  Won't it take forever with tons of luck for the Pirates to win a World Series?
Zeise
12:58
They will have to be lucky and have all these guys turn out to be real players and develop on the same path so they all get to the Majors together

12:58
Hi Paul. I've gone back and forth on Capel. I don't see it working out for him and I think its best to cut ties at the end of the season and move on. However, I agree with you that he's probably coming back next year. So the question is what does he need to do next year then to continue on?
Zeise
12:59
I think they have to become really competitive. I don’t think he has to be an NCAA team but they need to have a winning record, make a legit run at the NCAA and maybe even get to the NIT

To throw a bone into the Maz-Hines comparison.  Maz is the statistically best fielding 2nd baseman of all-time and while Hines was a terrific blocker, it's not quite as measureable.  Maz also had a reasonable bat for the period in which he played.
