Ok let’s get started

Hi Paul - have you or any other of your PG peers ever had a chance to interview the Steelers rookie punter to get his take on why he had so much trouble punting this past season?  Thanks
Zeise
12:11
Yes if you go to the PG website and search for Harvin a couple of good stories - one by Ray and one by Brian - should pop up

I read your article on Coach K, and agree that he is the best coach in the past four decades.  His teams are consistency ranked in top 10, and his number of tournament appearances, final fours and titles is unmatched during that period.  But as far as Wooden, he dominated like no other in his era.  You can't fault folks on when they are born and what era they played/coached.  I would argue, it's hard to compare folks from two eras,  as you pointed out the differences between the eras is great.  So wouldn't it be fair to say Wooden was the best in the 60/70s, and Coach K was the best during his era?  I would also like to think that Wooden would have found a way to win a lot of games if he were coaching now, just as I would think a Chuck Noll would having winning teams in the 2000s.
Zeise
12:13
Wooden didn’t start dominating until he started getting help - I.e. a bag man handing out money to recruits - and this is a documented fact. He was a moderately successful coach up until that point

Mr. Z.  Let MLB take a year off.  Get a salary cap/floor, cut 30 games off the schedule, make each pitcher pitch minimum 2 innings, and perhaps I'll return to the ballpark.  Throw in a free beer, too!
Zeise
12:14
The free beer I’m for! And anything that makes the games go faster I’m for as well

Hi Paul, you've recently drawn some criticism for being a Pitt homer, especially with basketball.  Given the recent poor performances, especially against Duke, have you changed your stance and do you think that Pitt should buy Capel out of his remaining contract?
Zeise
12:17
Nope. I said a few weeks ago the end of this season isn’t relevant. What is relevant is what happens in the offseason - does he keep his players and does he add some transfers that add scoring and a point guard. So ask me in two months when I see what next year’s roster looks like

With all the revenue sharing in the NFL, why is there such a disparate valuation of each teams worth?  Is it just billionaire owners would rather own the Cowboys instead of the Jaguars and their egos drive the difference in price?
Zeise
12:18
Because not everything is shared and the overall revenues generated by the Cowboys are far greater than the Jaguars

Hello Paul.  Do you have any updates on the Steelers’ GM position?  Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Clark on ESPN this morning said that Louis Riddick would be an excellent choice and would work well with Coach Tomlin.  Thank you Paul.
Zeise
12:21
I’m sure Louis Riddick thinks he is a great choice too. But again why pick a guy who hasn’t worked in football for what, 8, 9 years? When there are a lot of other candidates who are currently working

Hi Paul, I am not so high on drafting Malik Willis as others.  I know he is very talented with running speed and a strong arm but he is not very accurate.  I hear it can be coached into improving.  I can not see it.  So if he is are QB will we be bringing back the single-wing.
Zeise
12:23
As I have said if you draft Malik Willis you are committing to a 4-year project. It might take him that long to become a good player. If you are OK with that then you take him based on his upside. I think the Steelers have better options available

12:23
Hi Paul.  With all the talk about the Steelers trading up to draft a quarterback, is there an offensive or defensive lineman the Steelers would trade up to draft?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:24
No. I doubt given all their needs this is the year they draft up to get anyone. I don’t think they are in position to give up picks to make that happen

Paul, will the Steelers train in Latrobe this year or has a president been made to stay in the city?  What are the benefits and negatives for each location as it relates to getting the most out of practices?
Zeise
12:26
Latrobe is much better they have multiple fields there and coaches have all the players in a relatively captive environment. The owner and the coaches want to return to Latrobe but the players and players association don’t want to go back. I assume the owner will win in this and they will go back but who knows?

12:26
Can you think of one position group that is in better shape now than it was when Mike Tomlin inherited the team 15 years ago? It seems that the roster has been in decline for years.
Zeise
12:27
This is a good question. Running back? Lol. I actually don’t know that there is one - unless you have the pipe dream of Alualu and Tuitt back to normal and joining Heyward to make a great defensive line

While the NFL is criticized for the shortage of black head coaches the NBA has quite a few. What's different? I know the percentage of black players is higher in the NBA but the NFL's percentage is also much higher than in the general population's. And how big a factor is that?
Zeise
12:29
A different culture completely and the players have a far greater voice and far more power in that league. Owners seem to be far more progressive in that league in terms of understanding the culture of the sport of basketball and reacting to it

Hey Paul, what’s your take on what has happened with Phil Mickelson and the PGA?  Is this still an ongoing problem?  Thanks. Thanks
Zeise
12:31
It is ridiculous. He is being punished for having the audacity to challenge the PGA under the guise of some nonsensical disregard for human rights violations in Saudi Arabi. It is hypocritical and selective and the people/sponsors crushing Phil are full of hot air
Krugerrand
12:32
Paul, do you think KC's pending retirement makes him less likely to trade future picks? (not wanting to leve the cupboard bare for the next in line)
Bernard
12:32
I'm a big Hines Ward fan but understand the arguments against his HoF candidacy.  That said, I was surprised Sam Mills was elected and, while he played a different position, was curious on your thoughts there and whether the bar might have been lowered a little and Hines maybe has a shot?
PrinceBob
12:32
I read that the players' union thinks a 14 team play off would decrease the owners' likelihood of spending on players because a team could get in without being sort of good. I'd think it could increase spending. It's reasonable, to me, that every "extra" playoff spot would get at least a couple of teams that thought they had no chance before might decide to go for one or two free agents to get into that new slot. Any thoughts?

Hi Paul. We all waited ... what, 2+ yrs to finally get The ACC Network albeit after Pitt's best football season in 40 years. Bummer. Then they show the Pitt Men & Woman's awful Basketball teams. Ugh. Bummer. Nothing to see there.         I recently saw The Pitt Woman's Lacrosse Team which lost 12-3 to powerful North Carolina. It's their first year ever of playing. Bummer. Don't like that sport. What's next? Pitt Soccer? Not a fan.
Bernard
12:32
Simple but direct question:  are Terrell Edmunds, Devin Bush, Juju Smith Schuster, Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson above average to good NFL starters that can help form the foundation of a solid NFL team?
Zeise
12:37
OK the thing froze and I couldn’t get it to work and now it fires out three questions in a row
In reverse order….
12:38
Bernard - I think you have named a whole lot of guys who are complementary players at best. Johnson has a chance to be a star the rest are all either very average or flawed and so they do need to upgrade, especially at receiver
12:39
John - Right now your hopes are in soccer, football and volleyball. The baseball team is pretty good too. But yeah it hasn’t been a great winter for Pitt fans
12:41
PrinceBob - no I think all it would do is increase activity at the trade deadline and therefore they wouldn’t increase spending on players. Teams may take a chance on more rental guys but those guys are already under contract
12:42
Bernard - If there was ever a year for Hines Ward to get in this was it. That class is very, um, blah…. The fact that Hines didn’t even get to the finalist level tells me he may never get in
12:44
And finally - Krugerrand — KC won’t do anything that Tomlin and Rooney aren’t on board with. I think the overall feeling is they need as many picks as possible so there isn’t much sentiment organization wide to trade them away. I don’t think Coberts status has anything to do with this
OK now we are caught back up
