I have no idea and it just looks silly on TV but he isn’t harming me with it so I don’t care what he does
Engstock

I forgot to mention the conference thing comparing Villanova and Pitt basketball. what do you think Pitt basketball would be like now if they'd stayed in the Big East?
Zeise
12:03
Not good because the money they would be getting from the conference would be way less than what they are getting from the acc

Looking at the probable series against the Rangers, I believe the Pens are in trouble because the Rangers' goaltender is much better than Jarry or Smith and it will be another flameout in the first round. I hope I'm dead wrong but do you see any hope?
Zeise
12:04
It isn’t just that, they are younger and faster
Sunner in Orlando
12:05
Will Minkah's contract force a bunch of other player's restructuring their contracts so the Steelers can stay under the cap or are they fine with the money available they have right now?
Zeise
12:05
I don’t think so they are still in great shape with respect to the salary cap
TheVad

Hard to admit this...but I have accepted the fact that I will never see the Pirates in the World Series let along win it.  I imagine it is because I grew up as a kid in the 70's and was a young adult in the 90's I got spoiled at all of their great years (although the 90's bore no fruit they were very good teams).

Is there any hope that someday this team can be sold to someone who will actually put a competitive team on the field or should I just accept my fate now and resign myself to not watching or attending really bad baseball?
Zeise
12:12
I really think if Bob Nutting is the owner the Pirates will never win the World Series. I hope I’m proven wrong
Jay Daven
12:12
Good move Paul, I agree that they should trade Diontae Johnson, "Mr. Drops".
Zeise
12:13
I just can’t really defend signing him for $20 million
TheVad
12:13
So the Nutting model reminds me of Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football...Hey fans will trade our great talent now for a bunch of prospects that will make us competitive later...we promise we won't trade them for other prospects down the road (we pinky swear).
Zeise
12:13
Now they are trying hard to sell us on the idea that if they get the right deal for Reynolds they should trade him for pitching prospects
JR in SC
12:13
Rumor is that Padres negotiating with the Bucs for Reynolds. Prospects do not win games. Players do. Is there ANY reason to expect this ownership will produce a consistent winner or do we just get teased with a contender here or there as we trade for more prospects. I view this organization as a trading ground for the rest of MLB.
Zeise
12:14
But there are enough Pirate wonks in town trying to sell the idea that prospects are the most important thing the Pirates can acquire and they will all be good right around the corner. It is getting dumber by the day

I have read that Cherrington wouldn't have taken the GM job if he hadn't been promised that money would be spent when the time is right. But it looks to me like the time never will be right. Do you think Cherrington was had?
Zeise
12:17
Again like the earlier poster said - it is like Charlie Brown and Lucy. “We will spend money when we are ready to win, we promise” but “we are ready to win” is very subjective
Kasperi

Hi again Paul. Hey, you think we need to sit E Rod for a few games? Right now he can't hit the broadside of a barn as they say. I'm trying to round into form for the home stretch. Bye for now.
Zeise
12:26
He was playing way above his level of competence before. He has regressed to who he is. It happens all the time

If the Steelers offense stinks it up under Canada in the first half of the year, does he last the season or do they cut bait with him before season's end? I was not a fan of his dink and dunk offense last year but I know he had an immobile QB.
Zeise
12:26
They will not fire him during the season
Bernard
12:26
Were there any issues b/w Brady and Arians?  I've seen some internet innuendo to suggest he unretired only b/c Arians was on his way out.  Would be surprising given Arians reputation as a "players coach".  FWIW, I loved Arians and the Steelers were a lesser team after he was "retired" by the Rooneys.
Zeise
12:28
Yes, i believe Mike Florio’s report that Brady made it clear he didn’t want to play for Arians.
Mr. Rooney
12:28
Scherzer makes more than the entire Pirates roster.  Yet the team's valuation went up last year by a not-so-insignificant amount.  Is there any hope here at all??? This is a storied, championship franchise.  Does MLB just not care about its decline in popularity?  Pretty soon Lacrosse will be more watched in  PGH than the Pirates.  What say you?
Zeise
12:30
Now you are catching on, now you get it; It is a cash cow and no matter what happens it generates a lot of money and will continue to rise in value
Bernard
12:30
Dulac seemed to indicate yesterday Ben was unhappy on his way out and maybe burned some bridges - hence no congratulatory statements from Tomlin, etc.  Have you heard this?
Zeise
12:30
Ben is such a diva, are you shocked by this? Give me a break
GH
12:30
Will there be a statue of Big Ben erected at Heinz Field?
Zeise
12:31
He won half as many Super Bowls as Bradshaw, so no
Mr. Rooney
12:32
Kenny Pickett...is he the real deal or not?  Would you trade up for him?
Zeise
12:32
I absolutely would…… not. I wouldn’t trade up for any of these quarterbacks
Bernard
12:32
Please tell me the Steelers won't reach for one of these QBs in first round.  CJ Stroud threw at OSU pro day to help out Olave and Wilson and despite having an off day by his standards scouts at the event said he would easily be the first QB off the board if eligible. Pickett and Willis are not elite QBs.
Zeise
12:33
If they draft one they will tell you they are not reaching
Al Neri

Paul, I love these folks who always remark about a "small school" being competitive in basketball in college.  They don't realize, the coaches aren't recruiting from the student body.  Look at Gonzaga, small school in the literal "middle of nowhere".   That being said, with Pittsburgh not having an NBA team, I would think they should capitalize as only BB team in town.   And this place showed out in the 2000's.   So what's the problem now?
Zeise
12:34
Spokane isn’t in the middle of nowhere. And again, like Villanova, Pitt needs to find its Jay Wright
Thomas
12:34
Hi Paul.  Your picks to win in the Final Four games this weekend and the national championship please.  Thank you.
Zeise
12:35
Duke and Kansas and Kansas winning it all
John
12:35
Okay, I'II try to come up with a new topic not covered. Is anyone else irritated with all that recent extra superimposing of ads on the local hockey telecasts. Isn't all that signage all around the boards ad nauseum enough for ads? Now we get more ad upon ad superimposed on the glass & on the ice. It's madness I say, Paul.               By the way, I saw slapshop mph's nos behind the goalie on the glass & in the crease recently.
Zeise
12:35
I have no idea what you are talking about

Some writer, can't think who, a day or two ago wrote that Toronto could have an advantage in the NBA playoffs because teams with unvaccinated players won't be able to play in Toronto so Toronto should be required to play games in a US site? He got hammered for writing it but it seems like he has a point. What do you think?
