Well it is about that time to get it started so let’s do it!!

Paul, I almost always agree with your views and appreciate your candor. But why castigate those of us who see Nuttin' Nutting as a PR genius who thinks gambling on any future prospect (cheap bets) is better than paying for actual proven talent? So far the math is in his favor for profit only.
Zeise
12:02
Who did I castigate? What are you talking about? What I have said about this season is this: if you are worried about wins/losses and payroll this year you are worried about the wrong things. There will be a time for that but this year is about building for the future.
12:03
I’ve also said I can’t crush Bob Nutting for not spending money on payroll four years from now because I don’t have a crystal ball. If and when it comes time to spend some money, then we will see what happens. If he doesn’t at that point then he deserves to get crushed

Hi Paul. The Pens have played recently and injured forwards are starting to return.  Do you see them standing pat except maybe adding a bruiser forward before the deadline to make Burke happy?
Zeise
12:04
I think that might be the only move they make - a physical forward, one of these guys that adds a little grit. It is the only thing they lack

Steelers seem to be borrowing a page from the Pirates by signing a number of lower tier players, especially OL and now RB, much like the Buccos do with pitchers. What are the chances one of these players making an impact, and would the team be better served “pooling” that money and making one impact signing? Thanks.
Zeise
12:06
Nobody is looking for them to be impact players. It is about bolstering depth and you need depth players to survive a season. And this is how the Steelers always operate so I’m not sure why it is a surprise

Paul, Given the 2021 cap situation it seems to be a good year to sign good people to long term contracts if you can. So I was wondering if the Steelers wanted to sign a player to a 4yr 31 mil contract payable 1 mil in 2021 and 10 mil each of the next three years could they do that and get away with a cap allocation of 1/10/10/10?
Zeise
12:08
I don’t think it can be that dramatic of an increase year to year. I’m not an expert though on cap economics but from what I understand there is a cap on the percentage increase from year to year

If it appears that BOTH ETN and Harris will be taken before the Steelers, will they try to move up or take the center from Bama?
Zeise
12:11
I don’t see them moving up two years in a row. And I don’t know they are going to go center with their first pick

Three tough questions. Earth,Wind & Fire or AWB. Temptations or the Four Tops, Supremes or Aretha? Always the same questions figured you would like a change of pace.
Zeise
12:12
Easy questions for me: Earth, Wind and Fire, Temptations and The Queen of Soul!! Earth, Wind and Fire is my absolute favorite band, as anyone who listens to my show can attest!!

Do you still see the Pens making a move a the trade deadline? Burke has intimated that he wants a bit more bulk on D. Do you agree?
Zeise
12:14
Yes I think that is what they will do as I said - I think they will add a little bulk
Steeltree
12:14
With the exception of defensive back it seems as though the Steelers have made a concerted effort to sign Inexpensive FA a positions of need - tackle, guard, center, RB, and LB.  Do you think this allows  them to go multiple routes with the draft - indeed taking best available athlete in the early rounds at any number of positions
Zeise
12:16
Yes that’s exactly the point of what they are doing - they just want to give themselves the best chance to have flexibility in the draft. That’s what they do every year - they like to have some options and be able to take the best player available

12:16
In the most unlikely scenario that the Bucs start out well (around .500),do you believe they will still unload anyone that is not pegged for the future at the deadline or sooner?
Zeise
12:18
Absolutely. If they start out well all the better - it means some of their key guys will be having good seasons and they will be better trade chips. This team isn’t playing for this season. Period

Seems like the transfer portal in college b ball is not just a Pitt problem across the nation as several teams are losing a bunch. Mississippi is losing 6 and my Gators are losing 4 plus Mann going pro. Maybe Capel can get better players than what they lost?
Zeise
12:19
That’s the thing, but it requires him to win recruiting battles for players. And that isn’t easy.there are a lot of guys out there but you have to sign them
Where are all the questions at! Keep firing!!

Paul, I respect a lot of your commentary and agree with most but in the 3/24 mailbag article, you thought BOTH NHL teams should get one point for getting to the shootout, win or lose. Really? That would take away a lot of the excitement surrounding the shootout and then it just becomes like bonus footage for viewers or like watching an all-star skills competition. Want to rethink that one?
Zeise
12:24
No I said what I meant, there should be no incentive to get to a shootout, none it is a gimmick. Play ten minutes of overtime. If it gets to a shootout the only benefit for winning it should be you get an extra win in the win column for tiebreaker purposes. The incentive should be for teams to try and score when they are playing actual hockey

12:24
good Afternoon Paul who leads the pirates in home runs this season i think Moran or Hayes will
Zeise
12:25
I cannot believe I am gonna write this but..... Gregory Polanco. I know, I know but I think he can hit 20-22 and that will be enough to lead the Pirates
Church Lady
12:25
Pirates are in 1st place today
Zeise
12:25
Presumably for a few more hours only....
Church Lady
12:26
Are the Pirates just a minor league team feeding the majors?
Zeise
12:26
Well this year you could make an argument that is the case!!
Amanda
12:26
I will be starting a petition to remove you from appearing on the Nightly Sports Call with Walls. Anyone pushing drinking when kids could be watching is not suited to talk sports on tv. My husband hates you too. Walls should be let go as well.
Zeise
12:28
When I asked for more questions, I didn’t mean this.... Amanda, for the last time it is Rich Walsh. Walsh. Not Walls, Walsh. And Rich Walsh is laughing at you every time he gets on set and looks at the beer taps and so am I!! Have another beer or mixed drink, you need one!!!
12:29
i need more non-Amanda questions
Greg
12:29
Did you like the COVID changes to the NFL this past year (protected players each week, etc)? Think we should continue any of them?
Zeise
12:30
No I don’t, I think they went overboard but I get it. And hopefully by September when the season starts everyone is vaccinated and they don’t need to do most of this stuff
Church Lady
12:30
How drunk did Amanda get her husband to say "I do" or I guess?
Zeise
12:31
That’s a great question. He scolded me for talking about beer too which means he probably hammers the whiskey!!!
Zeke

Pitt was the favorite for Jarrod West and yesterday he committed to Louisville. Capel was known as a closer and right now he can't close a door. Thoughts?
Zeise
12:33
This is a great question and valid concern. However I would wait until this class is complete before I make a judgement about what he is doing in recruiting
