Gee what will we talk about today?

Steelers are going into this draft knowing they have to compete with not only a top division but also a really tough Conference. What's your ideal 3 year window regarding where they put most of their salaries in re-signing and signing players and drafting look like for the Steelers to be able to compete?
Zeise
11:27
Has to be offensive line and defensive line. Once you Shore those two spots up you have a foundation

Paul,                                             Are the Penguins on the fast track to becoming the Northshore Fightin’ Nuttings?  The bottom has fallen out the last month, month and a half, the front office defections (J.R. & Morehouse) and the weak minor league system, is this the beginning of the end?
Zeise
11:28
No they are a very well run organization. They just got old and I think the head coach is still trying to play a system that they are no longer capable of playing

This Pens team  usually regressed over the season. Seems like age is culprit and wears them down over a grueling season No way management doesn’t see this. How hard will it be to move Malkin and other aging stars after all the great times they provided this franchise. Couldn’t be easy even though it’s a business, right????
Zeise
11:30
Right but the problem is you have to draft really high to get more generational stars or sign them as free agents which is tough to do when you are at the salary cap. This is why you will see Rust and maybe even Malkin gone at the end of the season. They need to free up some cap space to be able to begin to really reload

Paul....I'm beginning to think that given the reported relatively weak class of QBs available and that the Steelers have met with so many and so often with them, that they really think they can get one of these guys second round?
Zeise
11:31
I think at 52 they could get Howell. Maybe Corral but I doubt it. The other three guys will be gone. So if you are OK with Howell that’s what they should do

Pens need a 1991 type atmosphere in PNC if they are going to advance. How does the organization get the “fanatic” back into its fans?
Zeise
11:32
The Pens are at the end of a really long run of excellence and fans get a little spoiled and lazy. They need to lose for ten years then get back to winning and the arena will be rocking again!

How long before the Pirates record falls too far below .500 that we know it’s over? I am pleasantly surprised how the early season has gone.
Zeise
11:35
Look back at last season - they were like 12-10 or something and through like 25-30 games looked really good. The 162 game season does not lie
Retire21
11:36
It was 17 years between the Pens second Cup and their third and I think we're looking at another long dry stretch and maybe the need to rock bottom to get the likes of Fleury/Malkin/Sid. Attendance really plummeted in that stretch. Do you think fans will stay in place if the team hits a dry run?
Zeise
11:36
I think there is a much bigger and more loyal fan base that will hang with the Pens if they have some down years
Retire21
11:37
Was there a time you remember when the Pens, Steelers, Pirates were all bad at the same time? We could be looking at no playoffs for anyone for a long time.
Zeise
11:38
There was a stretch in maybe the late 90s early 2000s. Maybe the late 80s. I mean it has been an awful long time and generally those stretches don’t last that long

No high school recruits and two days away from transfers being eligible to play this year and Capel still has 5 open spots on his roster. In hindsight to me Paul, the decision not to pay out Capel and instead let him ride for another year could turn this into a humiliating season for Pitt and dig a deeper hole for their reputation and rebuild. What are your thoughts?
Zeise
11:42
He can’t take high school recruits , he needs to win now. I think the deadline is just for declaring you are transferring but you can sign any time so he has time
Gene
11:43
Since they resigned Edmonds do you think they will still draft a safety?
Zeise
11:44
Yes I do, it is a one year deal they still need a safety.

11:44
Paul - Do draft prognosticators ever get more than 10% of their predictions correct?  They should be weathermen the rest of the year.
Zeise
11:46
Well it depends on how you grade them. I mean if you as
11:48
are asking me how many first rounders they get right I bet it is about 85-90 percent. If you ask me do they get each specific picks then yes 10-15 percent

11:48
If all the players that have been reported on to be picked by the Steelers are gone, what's your guess as to what we may take, possibly safety to replace Edmonds for next yr. or a DE..Thanks have a good Day !
Zeise
11:49
The corner from Florida is who I predict
Mark
11:49
Paul, as we head into another NHL playoff season, as usual, you hear what team or teams would be a bad matchup for the Pens.  My question is, why aren't the Pens ever a bad matchup for a team?
Zeise
11:51
They used to be. They used to be the team nobody wanted to play. But these other teams are younger and faster and have just as much skill. It happens
Mercury
11:51
Could the Pens playing poorly at the end of the season actually be a good thing? Maybe it’s the down before the up.  They were playing well entering the playoffs the past couple years then got smoked.
Zeise
11:52
I think they are who they are. They gave us a great run but like that one song “it must have been love but it’s over now, it must have been good, but we lost it somehow…..”
Darnell
11:52
Hi Paul, if Malik Willis is gone by pick #20, do you see the Steelers trading up to draft Jordan Davis?  Thanks.
Zeise
11:53
No I would be very shocked if they move up for anyone that isn’t a quarterback
Carl in Carrick
11:53
Paul, are you hearing anything about whether the Steelers will pick up Bush’s fifth year option?  Thank you.
Zeise
11:53
Ive seen it reported both ways. I think they have to make a decision real soon, right. I think they should not. Make him earn a big pay day
Southside Jimmy
11:54
Hey Paul, I think the Steelers need to update the defensive line, especially with Tuitt still being a question mark.  If Davis from Georgia is unavailable, what about his his teammate Wyatt?  Thanks.
Zeise
11:55
exactly they need to go get one of those guys
Sonny F.
11:55
Assuming all the top-rated receivers are gone, do you think a wideout like Melchie from Bama or Pierce from Cincy would make sense on the second round?
Zeise
11:57
Yes this draft is loaded with receivers and the Steelers need one. Maybe they trade Diontae Johnson

11:58
Mr. Zeise,

Which QB will the Steeler take at #20?  LOL just kidding...(figuring that will be asked in some form 1,000 times today)

Real ? - Do you expect the Steelers to stay, move up or down in the first round?  If so, what is the player/position that determines this movement (or lack thereof?)
Zeise
11:58
I have a feeling they will stay where they are. I just don’t know that moving up makes sense and unless they get a good return of picks they can’t afford to move down
