Paul,
Zeise

Hello
Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus
12:01
I think using 20th pick on Jordan Davis would be a mistake. No one knows for sure if he can be a three down player, so you could be wasting a top 20 pick on a player that is only going to be on the field for 15 to 20 snaps. You might say that's enough to change the rush defense. And I would counter by saying the Carolina Panthers thought the same thing about Derrick Brown and their rush defense is still middling.
Zeise
12:01
The thing is - what was their worst area last year on defense? Stopping the run. I think he would go a long, long way to plugging an obvious hole

Paul, I feel like if the Steelers are going to take a QB, they’d be better off with Pickett or Ridder than Willis. Willis may be more physically gifted but Pickett and Ridder seem more gritty and determined than the guy who left Auburn for Liberty. Agree?
Zeise
12:06
I don’t know that what happened leaving Auburn is relevant. I take a shot at Willis. I think you can find guys with Pickett or Ridders upside in free agency any year. If you are gonna use a first round pick it has to be for a difference maker
Dr Bobby
12:06
Honestly I think we have no idea who the Steelers are going to draft, there is not one slam dunk, maybe Jordan Davis , I have a feeling it is a smokescreen with Willis, what say you?
Zeise
12:07
Everything I know about Mike Tomlin suggests there is no smoke screen. He doesn’t waste time. He doesn’t waste energy

What is the solution for Capel and Pitt hoops? He can't attract recruits. He can't keep the ones he does. And decent portal players want to go to a winner, so he's left with the scrap heap. He might find a Mo Gueye now and again - but he's not going to pull half a dozen of them out of the portal every year... is it a culture thing, or just a bad fit here?
Zeise
12:09
He needs to assemble a good enough team to win more games than he loses this year. If he doesn’t the rest is moot because he won’t be here. I like some of what he has done in recruiting so far but his margin for error is almost nothing

Paul, I plan on having a great game tomorrow night. And get ready for the playoffs. Am hitting up Get-Go's now as we speak ..... going in now .....
Zeise
12:09
Ha ha. Now this made me laugh. Just be ready to play next Tuesday Or Weds or whatever day the playoff starts

Paul the Steelers have taken 2 players from the same school in the draft last 5 years in a row! Record not good. One or both do poorly. Whats up wit that? Statistically there are 250 College Football teams in Country,  "Eligible" draftees each school or say avg 10? 20?  So 2500 to 5000 players avail each year. They draft 2 from the same Schoo 5 years in a row? Seem to coincide with their draft fall off success rate. What do you think?
Zeise
12:10
I know it was different drafts but the Bengals did OK with Burrow and Chase back to back years!
Joe

I keep hearing how players need to go if the Pens lose in the first round but the coach needs to go too. Sullivan is a good coach but he only has one way to win and the players he has can’t win that way anymore and he can’t or refuses to change. What are his chances of being fired if they lose in 4-5 games this postseason.
Zeise
12:11
That’s a tough one. I think he will get at least one more year. The Penguins know they have a great coach and will give him every chance to get it right!
Let’s get rolling with questions, we are just getting started! Pack a lunch, I’m gonna be here for a while!

Any insight on the relationship between old #7 & AR2, KC, or MT? Thanks Paul!
Zeise
12:13
Did you hear his interview today on DVE? Ben said “my coach and my GM didn’t want me back”  and Dulac had reported about this rift a few weeks ago. It seems like the relationship is cold, not broken, but they won’t be opening bottles of wine together!
12:15
Ben is always going to Ben. His passive aggressive and petty games are second to none. He won’t let this go.

Hi Paul, we couldn't get the Baker deal done.         He had commercials set up for down there your way, too. Too bad, right?
Zeise
12:18
That was never a good idea. And it was never going to happen. I am not convinced he is better than Mason Rudolph or Mitch Trubisky
Scott
12:19
Paul, are there any active coaches in any of the 4 major sports who would still have a job after going 9 of 11 years, and 5 in a row without advancing past the first round of the playoffs?
Zeise
12:19
Actually I don’t think so, not in the  NFL. I think Mike Tomlin has it really good and he knows it.
Amanda

I am hosting a draft party for Kenny Pickett. Will you be attending ? Can you bring Mr. Pompeani  ?
Zeise
12:21
Only if you have full access to all of us to your liquor cabinet

Ha ha. He absolutely is, the worst I’ve ever known! Of course many would say the same about me soooo…..
Teflon Tomlin
12:22
At what point does Tomlin ever get fired? 3 playoff wins in 15 years? 3 playoff wins 20 years? 3 playoff wins in the last 11 years with a first ballot HOF QB is unacceptable. Tomlin talks about the standard, which before him was SB's, but under Tomlin the organizational/fan goals have become 1.) Wild card appearances, 2.) Non losing seasons/bragging about Tomlins regular season record, and 3.) Bragging rights for organizational stability with 3 coaches in 54 years. The Steelers have not won a playoff game in 5 years, Tomlins defense has given up an average of 42.7 points in the last 4 playoff games, the run defense finished #32 in 2022 and the run offense has been a mainstay near or at #32 and the Steelers are nowhere winning a SB let alone a playoff game. At what point does he get fired or does he have an unspoken lifetime contract? Because that's what it looks like and #'s don't lie.
Zeise
12:23
He is in the right organization for sure. I think as long as they remain competitive he will continue to have a job. That’s just how the Rooney’s do things. And they are going to be competitive

12:23
If the draft is over this weekend can we still talk about it for another 6 months ? I have nothing else to fill my life with
Zeise
12:23
Well you can start talking about all the great quarterbacks in next years draft!
John
12:24
The only way The Pens even have a chance is to play Florida. They've gotten in Bobrovski's head in the past. Maybe get a split down there. Or 2.    The pressure is all on them then. We don't have any. We're the 8th seed, we're the underdog mentality. The playoffs always have big upsets.
Zeise
12:25
The tough thing about the Panthers is they are the one team literally equipped to win playoff games 6-5. They are impressive offensively so even if the Pens score on them they aren’t necessarily going to beat them
The Ghost of Bobby Walden
12:25
They need to draft a punter within the first 5 rounds. Agreed ? Punters are very important to any team
Zeise
12:26
No, they need to see if this Harvin kid can figure it out
Mediocre Mike

Other than the Steelers, In any business/company in the world does this occur? After being ranked in the lower half in one of the major aspects of its business (#20 run game 2017) which determines its success, the owner gives a directive to its CEO/coach/boss that a certain aspect of their business MUST improve, and every year thereafter that aspect finishes near or at the bottom of that industry, and that coach/boss not only does not get fired, but gets a 3 year extension?  In the Steelers case, Tomlin was given a directive by Rooney to improve the 20th ranked run game after 2017. Tomlin followed that in 2018 ranked #31, 2019 ranked #29,  2020 ranked #32,  2021 ranked #29 according to pro football reference.com. This did not even include the once great Steelers RUN defense that finished #32 in 2021. Tomlin "the great '' received a 3 year extension during the spiral to the bottom for both the RUN Offense and DEFENSE while winning 0 playoff games. Why does Tomlin survive?
Zeise
12:27
That’s a very long winded way of saying you really don’t like Mike Tomlin and think he should be fired
