It seems like there is always at least one who finds his way onto the roster. They do a good job of bringing in a couple of guys who fit as special teams aces
Sam Clancy
12:49
Hi, Paul.  What are your thoughts on Jeff Capel's chances of fielding a solid team this year?
Zeise
12:49
I think the roster is better. I think adding Nelly Cummings was huge as this team needed a point guard. I don't think they are winning the ACC but they should be better.

Paul, my old friend, my chats done. Got room for one more?
Zeise
12:50
Only if you are nice. I have heard you are mean sometimes on your chat! We only want nice people!!
K Hayes
12:50
I see the Pirates are going to give away my headbands to the first 20,00 fans.  I think there will be a ton of them left over…maybe like 15,000.  Let me know if I can hook you and your family and friends with some.
Zeise
12:50
They will give them all out. That is my prediction
Mercury
12:50
Should Malkin be spending more time in front of the net a la Hornqvist?
Zeise
12:51
Yes and he should be playing much better than he has been so far.

Your incessant right wing tweets and progressive bashing on twitter makes you out to be a loser troll. You probably won't show this but if anyone should just stick to sports it's you bub.
Zeise
12:53
"I am such an incredible pea brain, I can't handle anyone with a different world view than mine, can't think critically about any subject so I revert to nonsensical labels like right wing about anything I think doesn't align with me and am intellectually lazy and immature so rather than come with an actual counterpoint I use words like loser and troll" Get it, Bub?

Paul, I was supposed to go up in Outer Space with Jeff Bezos. Maybe I can get him to buy The Pirates. Paul, I can get you some face time with a Kardassian if you know what I mean, dude.
Zeise
12:54
Jeff Bezos wouldn't buy the Pirates and I have no desire to meet a Kardassian as they are meaningless and irrelevant to me.

I saw a ridiculas comparison recently that involved the Pirates.  Local media gave the Pirates a big thumbs up for setting a new "high contract amount" stating that Hayes $70 Mil is a lot more than the $60 Mil paid to Kendall, when his $60 Mil would be worth about $100 Mil due to inflation.  Any thoughts on this??
Zeise
12:55
I agree, but in real dollars it was indeed the largest contract. Adjusted for inflation I don't know that it still is. But in terms of baseball contracts, it is peanuts.

Huggs the next established bball coach to walk given the way it is heading?
Zeise
12:56
Maybe, but he loves being the head basketball coach at West Virginia University. He will cross a milestone this year and that may be enough for him to decide he is satisfied with his career and move on

You’ve mentioned you used to cover sports in south NJ. Were you there when Pickett’s QB coach Tony Racioppi was lighting it up for KC Keeler at Rowan?
Zeise
12:58
I was there in the mid-1990s Rowan was really good back then but I don't recall if he was the QB at the time

Hi Paul what do you think of Hayes so far? Look aside from a month back in 2020 He has shown little power at all and that is continuing so far 1 month in. He has 0 HR's and a couple of RBI's. And now he is in a hitting slump again! When I watch him bat he just slaps the ball a ton, rarely pulls it. Look I'm not gonna lie, the Pirates didn't sign him for $70 million to be a mediocre singles hitter. Thoughts?
Zeise
12:59
His lack of power is a little alarming. I thought it would have developed some but it hasn't. I do think he will be a better as an overall hitter for the Pirates but it is tough for the Pirates if he doesn't develop some more power

paul do you foresee a future with NIL in which programs like Pitt and WVU lost their top few players each year?  Pitt can compete with some schools if it wants.  I think the transfer portal helped with parity but fear this will make the gap wider again
Zeise
1:01
Pitt has a chance to compete because anyone can give NIL deals and so Pitt isn't competing with Alabama budget for budget. I think the NIL will settle down some but it won't change the landscape - the best teams will still be the best teams but some teams will figure it out quicker than others

The Nightly Sports Call is their right name. They barely take 2 or 3 calls anymore if that with all that jabbering going on nonstop.Too much! One night it was 1. Forget about tweeting them, too ......
Zeise

We take calls every time I am on! And you can tweet us any time you want

Hi Paul. There's a hockey chat coming up soon, too. Well, there goes another to-do list that probably won't get done today. Like the players, I need my pre-game nap to get in, too.
Zeise
1:02
Well that is the goal of our chats - to get everyone distracted for the entire day

I thought that the Steelers problem with drafting CB's was, that for years (and possibly still) they drafted CB's who were great at tackling, not covering.  Your thoughts?
Zeise
1:03
Yes, they love those athletic guys who don't seem to be able to play corner very well. They have guys who have length and run well but they don't seem to have great instincts for the game.

Do you think if Pitt BBall has another bad season and Capel is canned he will be able to get another D1 head coaching job again? I mean his track record is pretty awful aside from the Elite 8 Blake G season. Just sayin.
Zeise
1:03
I think so. Maybe not a Power 5 right away but he could get a job in a smaller conference - like the Atlantic 10 - I think. It isn't easy to win in the ACC
Mom the Meatloaf!!

Son stop bringing up my meatloaf, it is very tasty and you know it!!

Hey Paul when will the Cole Tucker experiment end? He is torture to watch!!!! He can't hit, making key errors now as well. I mean yes he was a first round pick but some are busts and he definitely is 1 of them. NH made some bad ones didn't he yikes?!?!?
Zeise
1:05
Hopefully soon. And it is about time for the Yoshi thing to end as well. These are two guys I don't need to watch play again anytime soon. Both are so frustrating at the plate

Will Tomlin run roughshod over the new GM? I know he has always weilded the most power but will it become more lopsided now?
Zeise
1:06
I think the fact Colbert is retired means Tomlin is going to be the loudest voice and carry the most say in how the Steelers are run. I think he was very much that before but now without Colbert around, nobody is in the building to challenge him

did u have the pens or rangers winning this series before game 1? I had the rangers but now i might give the edge to the pens.
