OK let’s get it started

If you had to pick one player, who would you say is the most beloved athlete in Pittsburgh history?
Zeise
12:04
Mean Joe Greene
Jock Sutherland

ACC is discussing ditching the Divisions and having top two teams play in championship.   Each team would have 3 permanent opponents and rest of schedule rotates each year.    I’m mixed if a good idea but say it does go thru who do you think Pitt’s 3 permanent opponents should be?   I go with Syracuse, VT and Miami…..Miami to ensure have trips to South FLA every two years to help with recruiting.
Zeise
12:06
I would say the most obvious ones for Pitt would be Va Tech, Syracuse and Miami. Those three also make sense to have Pitt as one of their steady opponents
Jock Sutherland
12:06
Big Ten not discussing removing divisions but say they followed suit as ACC…who should PSU’s 3 permanent opponents be?
Zeise
12:07
Penn State - Rutgers, Ohio State and Maryland

As you said yesterday the Pens can't win the Ranger series or any subsequent series with Domingue in goal. Very sloppy with his glove hand and with his crease awareness. I also think if Sid cannot play the Rangers take games 6 and 7. Can't believe no penalty was called on that hit. Agree?
Zeise
12:10
The Penguins have proven to be able to overcome a lot of adversity but if you take Crosby out of the lineup I like their chances less. The best thing they have going is that Igor is struggling

Still concerned about the DL of the Steelers. Tyson is 35 coming off surgery, Tuitt is a probable no and Leal looks like an OLB in the scheme of things. Can they stop the run with this crop of lineman?
Zeise
12:11
No. It is essentially the same defensive line as they had last year if those two guys don’t play and play well
Southside Jimmy
12:11
Hey Paul, do the Steelers have any interest in signing James Bradberry?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:12
I don’t know if they have interest in him but that is the kind of guy they need to go get. They need help in the defensive backfield

Hi Paul, Has anyone asked Cherington for more specifics on his build plan?  For example, will guys like Chavis and Castillo remain with the team as starters or bench help once the "prospects" like Peguero, Cruz, and Nick Gonzalez arrive?  A problem they had with their wild card team was minimal bench help.
Zeise
12:13
He has given a blueprint multiple times. He wants all those young players to take control of their positions within the next year

12:13
Hello Paul.  Do you think the Steelers will still pursue Jarvis Landry or will they be satisfied with their current receivers and those they drafted?  Thank you.
Zeise
12:16
I cannot imagine they have any interest in him at all at this point. They are set at receiver and still have other needs
Jock Sutherland
12:16
If Greg Norman had won a Masters and was included in the Masters ceremonies /Dinner every year for rest of his life do you think he would  still the leader of the new Saudi golf league?    Do you think the new league is still around 5 years from now?
Zeise
12:18
I think it is going to take a miracle for that league to fly. For it to work it would need some of the biggest names to defect and commit to it and I don’t know that is gonna happen
ev
12:18
Paul, I fear the Steelers are a 7-10 team this year at best.  DL has not addressed and Canada is still running the offense.  Teams like Seattle and Detroit showed you can run against this team and have a chance to beat them.  I would like to say that Najee should see increased production, but defenses will be stopping him first and challenge the QB and passing game to beat them.
Zeise
12:20
Well the over/under for wins is 7 1/2 so you are right in the same neighborhood as the wise guys in Vegas. I think they are going to be right in that neighborhood as well - 8 or 9 wins max - but if a few things break their way I could see them getting to 10

I want to agree with your column about the Pirates not seeming better than they have in the last couple years. I've spent way too many years watching crappy Pirate teams while hearing that the corner would be turned soon because there is an army of great prospects who'll be along soon to fix things. And mostly they haven't. Chad Hermanson could maybe walk on water but any game where that will help your team win will have been rained out anyway.
Zeise
12:21
It is important to have a good farm system. But just having a bunch of names of prospects who may or may become great MLb players isn’t enough they actually have to become MLB players.

And I wanted to throw something at the TV on Tuesday when Bry Wilson left the game and Joe Block said something like his performance was a mixed bag because his fastball velocity and command was good. He gave up six runs in less than three innings. That's not a mixed bag. I LIKE the Pirate broadcasters and I know they need to put a positive spin on things but hearing it is getting very old.
Zeise
12:25
I don’t fault them for toeing the company line, they are paid by the company. But I laugh when they try and convince us something we all have witnessed didn’t actually happen. The worst is with Mitch Keller, who is always “one or two pitches, a bad bounce and some bad luck” away from being good

Was that a dirty hit on Crosby? I sure think so. Plus Trouba should have been penalized and fined but neither will happen. That hit was a series changer and if the Pens don't get Jarry back ASAP the Pens will lose this series.
Zeise
12:27
It was a dirty hit and it should have been a penalty. It should not have warranted a suspension.

12:27
What’s the latest with Diontae?  Will he stay with the Steelers?  If he is traded what could the Steelers get in return?  Thank you.
Zeise
12:27
I would trade him and would think you could get a first round pick for him
Darnell
12:27
Paul , what do you think about Justin Thomas’ comments on the PGA and Saudi Arabia?  Thanks
Zeise
12:31
Justin Thomas is entitled to his opinion but he should support any opportunity for golfers to make money. The more competition, the more the golfers can control how much money they can make. Competition is a good thing. Thomas has made his millions and is set for life so his opinion on this is taken within that context. The guys who are grinding in the PGA and have an opportunity to go get a big pay check may have a different idea

We all know the Steelers don't fire coaches. Let's suspend reality for a second and pretend that Paul Zeise owns the Steelers. How many more years do you sit by and watch Mike Tomlin fail to win a playoff game before you pull the trigger? He has already gone 9 of the past 11 and 5 seasons in a row without a single playoff win. Doesn't that get you fired from any other team in pro sports?
Zeise
12:32
I would say this - given the QB situation I would give him this season and next to at least win a playoff game

Paul, You and Mackey are running chats at the same time: can the PG servers handle it?
Zeise
12:33
I think they can!

Did Pitt land the modern day version of Duquesne's Nelson Twins? These guys any good?
Zeise
12:34
They come highly touted and they seem like they are pretty good. But again until we see them play in the ACC they are just good prospects
Retire21
12:34
I know you
Someone told me Megan McConnell at Duquesne is the youngest but the best in that line...better than T.J. Have you seen her play?
Zeise
12:36
She is special, I love her. She can really play. But her brother is gonna have a 10-12 year really good NBA career and her aunt is maybe the greatest women’s basketball player to cole
