Welcome. Start firing questions, I will get started soon
Talking NBA
12:32
Is Brad Stevens coaching for his job next season given the season long underachievement and near total recent collapse?
Zeise
12:33
I don’t think they are planning on firing him. I think they have invested a lot in him and want him to succeed. So no, I think he will be sticking around
Spinning Williams
12:33
Is Mitch Keller pretty much guaranteed a rotation spot no matter what given the talent we're told he has and the disregard for wins this year? If not, what might they do with him and when?
Zeise
12:33
He is because he is so important to the future of this franchise. They need him to be great or very good

12:36
Hey Paul.  So this isn’t a popular opinion I’m sure, but I don’t think it would be crazy for the Penguins to trade Malkin while he still has some value (if he does).  He’s hurt a lot, he seems like he’s just passing by when he’s on the ice, and doesn’t look to have any fire left in him.  Am I crazy?  Or do you think he is more of a liability now than an asset?  Seems they play better without him, or at least more disciplined.
Zeise
12:37
Maybe after this season it wouldn’t be the worst idea to be honest. I agree while he still has value and while he can still bring back a good haul. But they made it cla
12:38
clear they aren’t going to trade him

What do the reduced charges against Hugley mean, if anything, for his basketball career at Pitt? Given his attorney's reasoning that Hugley is "just a kid," do you think that will factor into Pitt's decision, or that Pitt's roster needs him?
Zeise
12:38
I have heard a lot of mixed things about this. I’ve heard he isn’t likely to be back regardless but whatever
12:40
Happens is going to be important towards his ability to get back into the program. So if his legal stuff is definitely cleared up than he might have a chance to be back

I think that any college coach should be given 5 years to build a program in all sports. At the end of that period he/she should be evaluated.I don't believe in contact extensions because as we have seen contracts are less than binding.I also could never understand firing a coach in the middle of a season.Your thoughts.
Zeise
12:47
Coaches argue that they need contract extensions in order to recruit players. That’s what they say. Five years is fair but sometimes it takes a little longer and sometimes a little less

Who was your favorite 1980s WWF wrestler and manager?  It was so funny seeing the managers get wiped out when things got crazy.
Zeise
12:49
Lou Albano, Superfly Snuka and Roddy Piper were my favorites. I loved Snuka and Piper was entertaining

Don’t these divisional games at the end of the year end up being like a BINGO card which is not a winner?  I remember in 2005 they had to beat Detroit at home, Cleveland had to beat Atlanta at home in 2002 to reach playoffs but how can you tell the last ten seasons apart like that?  I think it’d be best if they finish with the inter conference specialty game.
Zeise
12:50
I think the division games should always be week 6-7-8 and then week 12-13-14 —- that way they all are very important because they take place in the thick of the division race

Prediction for Isles-Pens?
Zeise
12:51
I know the Pens have not fared well in the playoffs recently but I think they are better than the Islanders. I see the Pens winning in six games. It will be mostly close games because of the way the Pens play
12:52
I mean the Islanders play. They play that slow, methodical, defense style — and that means the games will be tight but I think the Pens have too many weapons

Hey Paul, I was glad to see that Heather Luke apparently has faith that Coach Capel can turn the Pitt basketball program around even with all the outgoing players.  Do you have that same faith?
Zeise
12:53
I do it is not nearly as strong of a belief as maybe three years ago but he is working hard and Trying to turn us around

Ok, we got the Steelers' schedule for next fall. When are we going to get the Penguins' schedule for next week?
Zeise
12:54
I think it is out, isn’t it? I thought I read they play Sunday at noon

How about this. Pirates switch places with Chicago White Sox and go into AL Central?  Can play CLE. Small market MIN and KC.  Please give me a break from ad neaseum 19x Reds and Cardinals games. The the Sox and Cubs can play each other more. And PIT can also play Detroit. I know I’d watch more if they swapped leagues for some fresh interesting rivals.
Zeise
12:55
The Cardinals and Reds are probably the Pirates best fit as opponents right?

Hi Paul.  Kevin Newman’s unbelievable hitting in spring training has not transferred to the current season.  Has he been playing hurt or is there some other reason for his poor performance so far?   Thanks.
Zeise
12:57
He is underperforming on some level but he isn’t that far below what he is - a .270/.280 Punch and Judy hitter with very little power. Spring training was a mirage
Darnell
12:57
Hey Paul.  When do you see the Pirates pulling the plug on Polanco?  All Star break? Sooner?
Zeise
12:58
I don’t, I think they will ride him out and it only makes sense to ride him out to be honest. Once they trade a few guys they will need veterans and need to fill roster spots. They are already on the hook for the money so why not

Haven’t we heard enough from the media about the PR football head coaching situation? There are 2 sides to the story and the truth lies somewhere in between. Both sides obviously wrong on some counts. Bottom line: If your employer asks you to comply with certain things, you comply or find another job, rather than stay and thumb your nose at them.

I think it is an incredible example of how the adults in the room don’t always act like adults. The Pine Richland administration and school board seems petty and the supporters of the coach seem to be fighting a losing battle.

What do you make of what Bush said about Tebow?
Zeise
1:01
How about Devin Bush worry about getting better and getting back on the field and stop worrying about Tebow

You and rickie walls should do a sports shot & beer podcast. That would be bananas and Amanda could be a special guest. What you think uncle Paulie??

We do a great job together on the Nightly Sports Call, no need to change!

Is Hugley welcomed back to the team with open arms?  And is this possibly Jeff Capel's last season at Pitt?
Zeise
1:03
Like I said that is a good first step, his legal stuff. But he needs to continue to do what Pitt needs to see from him. As for Capel, he won’t be fired after this season regardless of what happens

I am from Aspinwall and came to San Diego with the Navy.  The SD Union Tribune is by far the worst paper for a major city that I have ever seen.  So far as Sports writers, we have Nick Canepa and nobody else.  You are Pittsburgh's most candid sports reporter.  What so far as you know is the over under win number for our Steelers?
Zeise
1:04
Last I saw it was 9 wins
