Tennis Anyone?

What's your take on the Naomi Osaka situation? I've always believed that if you didn't want to talk to someone you had the right not to. But I also understand why a sport that markets itself through its stars needs those stars to be available to the media. Do you force a player with a mental health issue to do it anyway? Do you grant exemptions for certain reasons?
Zeise
12:33
It was handled poorly by all involved. It could have been handled better, she could still be playing there and there could have been some accommodation made so that she could have satisfied the media requirement. Both sides in this handled it poorly and it became a disaster

Please explain how the Pirates' prospect pool could be so depleted that they are forced to use Kai Tom in their major league outfield? The guy is HORRIBLE and does not belong in the major leagues! He and Polanco are not even Triple A ballplayers!
Zeise
12:35
It is not that they don’t have prospects it is that they don’t want to bring them up and get their major league clock starter before they are ready. So they signed a bunch of journeymen to keep the seats warm and get through this season
Russell Okung
12:35
When will the Steelers sign me?
Zeise
12:36
Depends on what you are willing to play for!
Pete

Ben, hasn't been in the limelight since his "situations" and he's gotten marrried. Players want to try to win and play until the wheels fall off. Also I think this is the last year for #7, I love Ben more then most fans haha but it's time to get younger at the position
Zeise
12:36
I honestly believe if he plays well this year he will want to come back next year
Bill
12:36
How long do you think Luka D can keep Dallas in playoffs and do you think he ll take mantle of top player in NBA in future.  He seems to be on that pace.
Zeise
12:37
I’m not sure he isnt already there as the best player in the NBA. And he isn’t slowing down any time soon

Ka'ai Tom is a walking machine. Why doesn't learn how to drag bunt, a la Brett Butler?
Zeise
12:38
Why doesn’t he just learn how to hit
Bill
12:38
Agree with your comment on PIne coach story.   But seems to me if Coach K had cases of apparent
Zeise
12:39
He could win a lawsuit but he could also have it thrown out of court. But I don’t think the lawsuit will mean anything towards him getting rehired

Ive read the previous article you wrote on the Pine Richland situation…well done and thanks for the above reply.
Zeise
12:43
People think I have some sort of emotional investment in it. I don’t. I deal in facts and nothing more or less
Mark
12:44
Paul, you mentioned analytics a week or so ago.  Sorry for going long here, but here's my question:
Zeise
12:44
That’s an interesting question....
Bill
12:44
Return of the USFL..  Top 3 exSteelers that would sellout Heinz field just to boo and throw snowballs?   Antonio Bryant obviously number 1!
Coach
12:47
Paul, what do you make of the transfers and juco player Capel has brought in? Any clue as to this team’s level of competitiveness for the upcoming year? Overall .500 record?
Zeise
12:48
I have no idea but I have a very hard time believing you can piece together a roster like this that will have success in the ACC
Mark
12:48
Are analytics making sports unwatchable?   In baseball, it's not uncommon for 9 innings to go by and nearly half of all plate appearances result in no contact of bat-to-ball.   In the NBA and a lot of college basketball, a "set offense" is 5 players standing around the 3-point line until the shot clock gets to about 6, and then one player penetrates and kicks out for the 3.
Zeise
12:52
It has changed sports. Some would say for the better some for the worse. I don’t think it is an all or nothing proposition. The launch angle garbage that has basically turned the sport into a bunch of guys who strike out trying to hit homers is bad. The emphasis on the 3-ball in basketball can be good - unless you have a bunch of players who can’t make it
Ryan
12:53
Sorry that the system sucks. And the Pirates will never become a team that ever has anything but  small windows and even small mistakes ruin chances for years to come. Perhaps the recent trade for archer has killed the chances of success for at least 5 years.
Zeise
12:55
That’s the issue - the margin for error is slim. If you are gonna make a trade like the Archer trade you better get it right
Cap Master
12:57
With our current cap situation, will we be able to sign any decent free agents to add depth to OLB, CB, and/or OT?
Pants!
12:58
Savran or Madden? Cook or Starkey?  Mueller or Poni?
Zeise
12:58
In what contest?
TPHunter
12:58
Since the Pens are happy with their roster, the Steelers are happy with their roster, the Pirates, are, well, whatever, I suggest to all of my fellow Pittsburgh fans that we stop stressing for a bit and enjoy the summer months! Send Amanda over with the brews!
Zeise
12:59
Ha ha, her and her husband are hosting a barbecue with lots of alcohol
JR
12:59
Pitt needs rivalry games in BB and FB. Restore the City Game and sign WVU to a ten year deal. Imagine sold out games and lots of excitement.
Zeise
1:00
Why would they do those things, it would make their fans happy
Matt from LA
1:00
Can someone please explain to the Pirate announcers that there is more to baseball commentary than just announcing the total pitch count after every pitch? Hockey commentators are just as bad with their emphasis on shots on goal!
Zeise
1:00
I’ll be sure to pass that on
Mark
1:00
Hi Paul.  How anemic do you think the Pirates offense will be after Frazier gets promoted, eh, I mean traded, to a big league club?
Zeise
1:01
Depends on who goes with him - if Moran and Reynolds go the team could legitimately go three days I. A row getting shut out
Leyland, Jr.
1:04
I know it's a small sample size, but give a grade as to Shelton's performance as a manager since he took over for Hurdle, please?
Zeise
1:09
It is hard to tell, so far he seems like a run of the mill new breed analytics driven manager. But it is hard to tell with the roster he has to work with
Tomlin
1:09
Besides the "no losing season" jazz, what have I done to keep my job?
Zeise
1:10
He keeps his job because the Steelers don’t fire coaches and because he wins more than a lot of coaches and because he has maintained a level of consistency and the Rooney’s belief is if you are always knocking on the door you give yourself a chance to win
