Let’s get it started

Hi Paul thanks for the chats! Am I wearing rose colored Steeler glasses in thinking the Steelers will be better than last year with a worse record but will make the playoffs IF they stay healthy? The national pundits are giving them no chance.
Zeise
12:12
I think they will make the playoffs. I really do. I am not being overly optimistic either. I think they will win at least ten games
Sunner in Orlando
12:12
Do you see any major surprises with the Pens leaving one of the core players unprotected in the expansion draft?
Zeise
12:12
No I don’t. I think they will lose one of the guys we have all talked about for a few weeks
Sunner in Orlando
12:12
Any rumors on the Pens acquiring a vet in goal next year?
Zeise
12:12
I haven’t heard a name but it sounds like they are absolutely looking to that
V. Fontaine
12:12
What are your thoughts on the CFP likely moving from four teams to twelve? I think it makes more sense to go to sixteen or even thirty-two.
Zeise
12:14
They will get to 12 but I don’t see more than 12. I have mixed feelings about it. I think 8 is the right number but if they do 12 right it can work

12:15
Any reports of any new transfers coming into the Pitt program this fall? The cupboard is pretty bare.
Zeise
12:16
Basketball? I think he is pretty much done with his class isn’t he? He has at least four kids coming in if I’m not mistaken
Sunner in Orlando
12:16
I am beginning to think the Bucs ought to trade Frazier right now while he is hot. The Yankees are in desperation mode and need a left handed bat and a good glove. Any rumors you are hearing?
Zeise
12:17
I’m sure they are trying to but apparently they are overplaying their hand and asking too much. He is a good player but they might not want to overplay their hand like that
Erk the jerk
12:17
Sad time for the sports landscape in our city for our teams. I know the Steelers & Pens still make their playoffs and have good teams and players but it feels like doom and gloom. At least to me it does. We need something beside the laughingstock Pi-RATS constantly embarrassing us. Smh.
Zeise
12:19
The Steelers and Penguins compete and win a lot more than they lose. It happens though every team goes through rebuilding phases and whatnot. If this is the bottom for both the Steelers and Pens that ain’t too bad

B J Finney thinks he will be the starting center. Is that him talking or are the coaches going to bring Green along slowly out of the gate to have him prove himself?
Zeise
12:21
I’m sure he believes that and he should looking at his competition. It won’t shock me if he starts the season as the starter and gives way to Greene at some point
Bernard
12:21
Will the Steelers sign Jesse James and shouldn't everyone be required to take a Covid test every day even if vaccinated?  Just kidding.  Real question - have you seen enough of Layne or Pierre to believe they can be at least average starting NFL CBs?
Zeise
12:23
I have not seen nearly enough from either and this will be a big year for both
Sunner in Orlando
12:23
The Pens early exit debacle doesn't look so bad now that the Islanders took care of the Bruins in 6.Trotz is an excellent coach that the Caps should never have let go. I think the Islanders can beat the Lightning and will give Vegas a run at the cup. Agree?
Zeise
12:25
I don’t think the Bruins - who weren’t that good during the season after a hot start - are a barometer for the Pens at all. And I think the goalies in Tampa and Vegas are much better than the two goalies the Islanders have faced so far

Wow! AFC looking awesomely competitive this year. KC hot. Titans jumped way up the ladder. Buffalo solid. Miami...meh? Aa Rodgers to Denver? Steelers can no longer count on 4-2 minimum in division play. Now I think it's all about injuries in the AFC that will determine the playoff picture due to the extreme parity among us. Gonna be year of attrition more so than ever. Amiright or what?
Zeise
12:26
The Steelers will be a team that probably isn’t a Super Bowl contender but will be a playoff contender and I think they will make it. I think they will go 4-2 in the division, by the way
Mark
12:26
Have you seen enough of the Browns yet to think they are legit playoff contender, or do they need to produce some more (e.g show some consistency year-in-year-out) for you to believe they've turned the corner on their past systemic ineptness?
Zeise
12:27
The trick isn’t doing it once. The trick is doing it multiple times consistently over the course of time. I think the Browns on paper look really good. Games aren’t won and lost on paper
Smoke
12:27
Juju wants to be a down the field receiver rather than in the slot.  Is that realistic with Claypool and Johnson there?
Zeise
12:28
No. He is the fourth best option on the roster as the down the field threat
Bernard
12:28
So the Pens have been pretty much horrible in the playoffs the last three seasons and they are keeping their coach and core intact?  I'm trying to recall another team that underwent such a lapse in performance and didn't change much and suddenly started winning big again and I'm coming up empty.  How do you think this plays out next season?
Zeise
12:29
Again when you have a core who has won as much as the Pens it is hard to break it up. It just us. You keep telling yourself they are gonna figure it out again but they never do
Bernard
12:29
Is Jarry the #1 goalie next season?
Zeise
12:29
Yes and I think there will be a veteran 1A guy if he falters
Utah Jim
12:29
The offense struggle last year at both the run game and deep passing. They are clearly trying to address the former, but is there any reason to think the latter will improve? It’s basically they same personal sans the OC.
Zeise
12:30
That’s a great question - the key with deep passing is the arm of the quarterback and we won’t know anything about that until we see him start to throw them

Good morning, Paul. I think we’re back to many people overlooking the Steelers defense. I think they were exposed a bit late last year with 3/4 of their LB’s out and with the offense not exactly setting them up for success but having pedigree guys like Watt, Minkah and Bush (he still has to prove it) on every level, plus guys like Cam (older but still effective) and Tuitt (double-digit sacks), this D can still be amazing. I think some fans don’t realize that you can’t have a pro bowler in every position or as a backup to every position. What’s your take?
Zeise
12:33
I definitely think the defense will be really good provided Bush is healthy, they find a slot corner to replace Cam Sutton (who I’m assuming will move outside) and Alex Highsmith takes the next step and becomes a playmaker. If those three things happen it will be a very good defense

What is the strange fascination the Pirates have with Ka' ai Tom?  He can't hit at a major league level and frequently is responsible for misplays. If the Pirates believe he is a project worth developing send him down to the minor leagues to work on both instead of making the local fans watch a near automatic out.. I recognize he is a Rule 5 pick but what team would claim a 0.154 hitter who only plays one outfield position on waivers? Certainly Cleveland would have no interest in paying $50k to get him back on their roster.
Zeise
12:35
Derek Shelton has a fascination with him. It is like Clint Hurdle with Sean Rod. And Jim Leyland with John Cangelosi. Some managers just seem to fall in love with guys who stink
Mark
12:35
Hey Paul.  I think most Pirate fans realize that rebuilds take 4-5 years.  The problem is, while the rebuild transpires during those years, it is more money in Nuttings pocket.  That is the part that irks people.  What is your opinion?  Thanks.

Paul. Yuengling Golden or Lager?
Zeise
12:37
I love them both, I like Lager just a little more
