Hi Paul. Your take on the Pirates draft?
Zeise
12:08
I think it was really good based on the information we have. People always are horrible at draft analysis. They overthink it. I look at the fact that they got four top 32 prospects and a lot of pitchers with good arms and say - OK they did well but let’s now see what it turns into
Bill
12:08
Why do the Pirates always seem to be in perpetual rebuild mode? Rays, Indians, and A's are small market teams but they figure it out.
Zeise
12:10
Well they weren’t in rebuild mode from 2013-15. The problem is they made a lot of personnel mistakes and whatnot after the 2015 season and they have been a disaster ever since. The hope is the new regime is building a foundation that will give them a chance to be successful for the long haul

Shouldn’t the Pirates be able to find someone better than Perez as backup catcher? I mean really - .130 ?
Zeise
12:12
They were not exactly looking very hard. Again, this year was about surviving while the team is being rebuilt. Why spend money or trade chips on a backup catcher who is just keeping a seat warm for a year or two

Best chicken - KFC, Chic-Fil-A, Popeyes, Raising Cane, Los Pollos Hermanos?
Zeise

I’m old school, I still love KFC

Hi Paul.  Is it me or are the afternoon Fan co-hosts negative about almost everything pertaining to  Pittsburgh sports?  They didn’t like the drafts of the Steelers or Pirates, they don’t like Big Ben and think the Steelers will really stink this season to name a few examples.  Thoughts?
Zeise
12:15
Well Mueller is a contrarian so what everyone likes he will automatically hate and what everyone hates, he will automatically like. That goes beyond sports to life - so it isn’t that he is picking on Pittsburgh sports it is just that happens to be the subject matter of his show.

Interesting article about Ben and his “tell” of different footwork on passing and running plays. Number one, are you believing it, and number two, if you are isn’t it something the coaching staff should have picked up on?
Zeise
12:18
They did have video to back up the claims but I don’t know if I buy that the coaches were completely unaware of this. These guys spend so much time breaking down film and self scouting I can’t believe they were completely clueless

For what it's worth, I liked the direction the Bucs front office took with the draft. At this stage, spread your money over a few high-quality prospects rather than zeroing in on one a very good pitcher. I know they took the gamble on the high school pitchers who are many years away, but they do have other very good throwing prospects in Altoona who should be up in a couple of years.
Zeise
12:19
I agree. We just need to wait and see what these guys all become. But it appears they have done well

How deafening will the ovation at Heinz Field be when Troy P. makes his first public return to the city?
Zeise
12:21
That is gonna be an incredible moment. It is long overdue too. Troy is a great player, a better person and an all time Steelers player. He deserves to be honored

Hi Paul, do you have a favorite pick in the Pirates’ draft or a pick you’re really pulling for to make it to the majors?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:23
I like Bubba Chandler. First off by taking him and signing him they keep him away from Clemson! But I was a big fan of Chris Weinke and Chandler has a similar story

12:23
Hey there Paul, What has happened with the Pirates since they sat atop their Division at 1-0?
Zeise
12:25
They woke up and realized they were the Pirates! I mean people crowing when they were 12-11 were delusional and/or fan boys. The beauty of the baseball season - 162 games never lie about who you are.
Forbes Field
12:25
Something came up in an earlier chat that prompts this question. What's the likely life span of PNC Park? It's two thirds as old as Three Rivers was when they tore it down but only about a third as old as Forbes was. I suppose you could ask the same of Heinz Field.
Zeise
12:27
I think both Heinz and PnC opened up around 2001. I would say by 2030 both teams will start crying a River about needing a new stadium. That’s usually the shelf life - 30 years

Any chance the Penguins leave Teddy Blueger unprotected in the expansion draft after signing him to the extension? I don't think that a $2.2 million cap hit would chase away Seattle if it's interested, would it?
Zeise
12:28
I doubt it, they signed him because they want to keep him

I have to admire all the local sports writers these days. With all the losing going on with the “Big Five”, you guys must be looking under rocks to keep us fans interested and selling hope. Could be a long time before we see another championship around here in anything.
Zeise
12:31
Well if by Big 5 you mean Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and Pitt hoops and football. I agree it could be a long time before we see high level success again but four of those five teams have won a championship in my lifetime so I can’t complain
Joey
12:33
Paul do you play poker at all or gamble? If so just curious what your biggest win and loss has been thanks sir.
Zeise
12:34
I love playing poker. It is one of my favorite activities. I would have to think about biggest wins and losses - I once hit a Royal playing three-card poker and cashed 1/2 stack of high society. And my biggest loss was on a Yankees-Twins game.

Who is the sexiest female athlete around today?
Zeise
12:37
That is a very politically incorrect thing to ask and this is a very woke  chat and as a result I would never answer that question or say something like Paige Spiranac is very easy on the eyes.......
John
12:38
If Narduzzi has yet another mediocre season in year 7 like a 7-5 record will he finally be on the hot seat?
Zeise
12:38
I don’t believe that he will. I think it would take him going 2-10 or something before he would be in any trouble. They like what he has done, the stability he has brought and the program he has built
Rico

You pal are a sellout, SELLOUT! Do us all a favor and stop tweeting. Most of it is right wing talking points anyways. Do you know what the word clown means Zeise? It means you. Again stop tweeting.

Rico is apparently off his meds again. Someone give him a hug!!
Amanda

The best thing about your vacation was you didn't have to pollute everyone with you laughing about kids drinking! You have no shame you and Walls and you will be fired soon from the tv show you suck at. Shame! Shame! Shame!
Zeise
12:41
Gee when one shows up, so does the other! Has anyone actually seen Rico and Amanda in the same room? I’m just sayin’.... Here is the thing, if they are in a room together they are no doubt watching Hannity and hammering Michelobs

Agree with you that 2013-2015 was good fun. So with the benefit of hindsight, 1) what do you think are the specific major mistakes the Pirates made after 2015, 2) can they be grouped into general areas , and 3) where have you seen the Pirates learning from them?  Thanks!
Zeise
12:42
After 2015 they should have kept their core together and spent some real money to get over the top. They had just won 98 games. The moves they made were almost all aimed at shaving payroll. They should have went for it
