OK let’s get started

Three Rivers opened 50 years ago today. Everything good there happened the first 10 years.
Three Rivers Stadium opened 50 years ago today. Everything good happened the first decade. Best in person moment for me.....Immaculate Reception. Worst, AFC championship loss to San Diego. You?
Zeise
12:04
I don’t agree that the best moments were all in the first ten years. The three years for the Pirates 1990-92 had plenty of great moments and the Steelers won an AFC title game there in 1995 and Pitt shut out Penn State there in the last game between Pitt and Joe Paterno.

Guys like DeChambeau could make "De Shambles' of places like Winged Foot and Oakmont in majors, blowing drivers over trouble. Oakmont may have to have them tee off on the other side of the turnpike on No. 9. Not really good for golf?
Zeise
12:07
I think it is great for golf that guys hit the ball a mile. The USGA will fight back and start tricking up courses so that driving it far doesn’t mean as much. Between how they cut greens and pin placements and how they cut roughs they can make courses really tough no matter how far you hit

If Pitt goes all ACC football games only, could they play other league teams not on '20 sched to make up?
Zeise
12:11
I think they have run a lot of models out there so far. If there is a schedule I would be shocked if it is more than eight games. That would mean they could keep their schedule intact but there is some talk they want to make the schedule more regional and that would eliminate games against FSU and Miami. It will be interesting to see if we actually get that far, though
Georgia Steeler
12:11
Hey Paul anything good happening in da' Burg ? I heard the Steelers were looking into a possible trade with Jacksonville swapping running backs ? Goy my Augusta National Women's Amatuer Finals tickets for 2021 hope we are all still around next spring...........kidding.  thanks for chats.
Zeise
12:12
A lot of people were hoping the Steelers ended up with Leonard Fournette but it was never gonna happen. As for fans at golf events in 2021, God let’s hope so
Lone Ranger
12:12
Hello Paul.  Do you think any of the commissioners will attend any games in their respective sports without a vaccine?  Thank you.  I hope the little rangers and rangerettes out there will wear their masks like Tonto and I are doing.  Hi ho silver awaaaaay!
Zeise
12:13
Yes I do think they will and they will likely make Nan appearance of some sort, too. They will of course wear masks and probably do TV interviews as well
Jock Sutherland
12:13
Hi Paul. Good columns this week. Keep up great work.  With the college football session pretty close to dead for Fall and highly unlikely for Spring how likely are we to see coaches returning back to the schools some of their huge salaries?
Zeise
12:16
We are already there aren’t we? Coaches have  been giving back salaries for a while now and they trend will continue. It is gonna get really bad if there is no football. That’s just the nature of where all of this is right now.

A reporter said earlier today that Dak Prescott could replace Ben when their contracts are up.  Could you see Dak as a Steeler?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:17
Anything is possible and anything can happen but I just don’t see this as a fit. I don’t think the Steelers will go the big dollar free agent route to replace Ben.
NHSTEEL
12:17
Hey Paul!  The Patriots have announced plans for fans in the stands with a capacity of 20%. I know the Steelers said they would announce something soon. Does it sound like only season ticket holders will be at the game and will they face a lottery? Any ideas?
Zeise
12:23
The lottery is the only fair way to do it. And I think that’s what every team will do. College teams will probably find a way to get a donation on top of the right to buy tickets. That doesn’t work for NFL teams
Sunner in the sunshine
12:23
I believe Dak might be a great next generation QB for the Steelers after Ben retires. If Dak plays under the franchise tag for the next 2 years, would the Steelers be interested in a proven commodity like Dak in 2022 versus Mason or a player to be drafted later as Ben's successor? The money would be similar to Ben's deal right now or.....are the Steelers looking to get Ben's type of contract off the books permanently?
Zeise
12:24
As I said before - I just don’t think that the Steelers are going to go the high dollar free agent route to replace Ben.
Sunner in the sunshine
12:24
Hi Paul! Thanks for the chats! Were the Steelers and Bud even close to a deal or were they so far apart that there were no serous negotiations?
Zeise
12:28
There was serious negotiations they just couldn’t come to a deal. The Steelers need to figure out how to pay all these guys under the cap. The cap will dictate some of their decisions and seeing as it is likely to go down next year it is going to be tough for the Steelers to have flexibility.
Donna
12:28
Hi Paul, I’m wondering what you think about Elena Dells Donne saying the WNBA is not supporting her concerning her health problems and possibly opting out this season.
Zeise
12:29
I think any league that doesn’t stand behind any of its players who opt out this year is short sighted and frankly a garage league. This is an unprecedented year and everyone needs to learn how to be flexible.
Carla
12:30
Hey Paul....it seems to me that people are making a big deal what Dechambeau said about Tiger’s
Paul, I’ve heard some people are making a big thing about Dechambeau apparently being surprised that Tiger was driving the ball so well at his age.I thought his words could have been chosen better, but that it was not a put down of Tiger nor derogatory towards him.  What do you think?
Zeise
12:30
I think we have become
12:32
an incredibly thin skinned country. Those two are friends and play a lot of rounds together. And what did he say that was so wrong? It is pretty incredible a guy of Tigers age and back condition can still drive it 320 yards. This is a silly “controversy” and people need to grow up
Sunner in the sunshine
12:32
I believe the Pens have a Cup run in them this post season. Advantage or disadvantage to play the play in the first round against the Habs versus playing for the top 4 seeds like the Caps Flyers etc...??
Zeise
12:34
I think the urgency of elimination round playoffs in any sport is different than regular season or round robin games. The Pens will have to be sharp, will have to figure out line combos quickly and Matt Murray will need time get dialed in immediately. That will give them an edge over any of the teams that have a bye they will play in round 2
Sunner in the sunshine
12:34
Are the Pirates torn between going for a playoff berth in this shortened season or are they more concerned about the future of their youngsters and seeing what they can do in the bigs at the price of losing? Or is there a way to do both?
Zeise
12:37
It is a brutal, brutal place for the Pirates under a new regime to be. They want to rebuild but have no minor league games to help develop players. They would love to trade some players for prospects but they don’t really have much to trade. And with a 60-game season they are gonna be in the chase deep into the season - and it would be a bad choice to bail on the team by trading players if you are only 2 games out or something
Sunner in the sunshine
12:37
Do you agree with Cook about no way they can play college football this fall OR the spring because there is no way to bubble the players and no way to afford the testing necessary on 100 plus players per team?
Zeise
12:37
It seems like it will be tough to do but I won’t say it can’t happen because we don’t know that
Jock Sutherland
12:38
My best 3rivers moment July 12 1997. I was luckily at Cordova/Rincon 10 inning no hitter.  Sellout due to fireworks and Pirates flirting with 1st place.   Since it was fireworks night the crowd stayed and was a party atmosphere after game while waiting for fireworks.    I believe the was a game not covered on TV locally so only Houston TV broadcast exists so hasn’t been on Pirate replays this summer...maybe someone could validate that.
Zeise
12:38
I’ll put it out there - but I seem to remember watching that game. I could be wrong - does anyone have the answer?
Mary Lynn
12:39
Hey Paul, just wondering if you’ve had a chance to watch the Living Room sports show hosted by Pompeani and Walsh.  Thanks.  P.S.  Real men and Real women wear masks!  Let’s get real!!
Zeise
12:39
It is a great show. I really enjoy it and they get great guests
John Strange
12:41
Which is more grounded in reality? Talking about the 2020 NFL season or talking about the different shapes of clouds in the sky?
Zeise
12:42
I believe there will be a season in the NFL. I do. I think it will happen, there is just too much money at stake for them not to have it
