Was Gene Steratore serious when he said " having a foot in the end zone is a touchdown" ? I thought the ball had to break the plane of the goal line

I think what he said was because the foot was in the endzone the official should have spotted the ball and seen it was breaking the goal line

What could be the reasons the Steelers dont use the middle part of the field on offense?   Not just underneath stuff, but 15-20 yards downfield?   Cant Canada figure it out?   They have the horses to run thru there.

One thing Mike Tomlin said this week was that they wanted to play it safe, not put Mitch Trubisky in a bad spot in his first game and they will open things up more as the season goes on

Good morning, Paul.  Out of curiosity, do you believe that the Steelers conservative (i.e., bad) offensive play calling was because they were trying to be safe and protect a lead?  I'll buy that for the 1st half, but in the second half they appeared to have no answers offensively and no appetite to do anything other than hope a long snapper would injure himself and the Bengles would go back to being the Bungles.  I mean, folks can blame the offensive line all they want, but with no throws to the middle of the field beyond 5 yards and no deep isolation routes, the offense in the second half actually looked worse than last year, in my opinion.

The guys who all got paid, they really showed up in that game, didn't they? Diontae Johnson, Minkah Fitzpatrick, TJ watt, Cam Heyward - they make the big bucks and they earned it

They are going to have to pay him. Their defense is built on rushing the passer. And he has gotten better and better

Paul I am OK with Trubisky's play, so far, as a starter.  A lot of folks have short memories and can't recall how terrible QB play was in 2019 (when the OL was better) between Rudolph and Hodges replacing an injured Ben.

As I wrote - he is what he is. I don't know why anyone expected him to be anything more than a gritty veteran leader who manages games and gives you a chance to win. That is who he is

I know it's only one game, but the Canada offense is exactly the same.  Roethlisberger might have limited the book, but sorry, he also opened up other avenues that other QB's cannot match.  What on Canada's resume leads anyone to believe that he is the right guy for this job?

Again, they made it very clear Tuesday that they played it safe for a reason. The defense was dominating the game and they were happy to take what the defense was giving

Hi Paul.  Did anyone in media ask Narduzzi on if he had any thoughts to go for 2 after they scored last TD?  With bad kicker and banged up QBs it seemed like something that had to enter his mind at the time.

Is the Big 10 really any better than ACC in football? Take away Ohio State and Clemson and to me both conferences have a bunch of teams that are pretty good to average with a few bottom dwellers each. Other than the aforementioned two, Michigan and MSU are only teams to make the playoffs(once each)and they both got shellacked.

I have no idea who is actually good these days. Penn State is 2-0 but they have two wins over bad teams. Wisconsin lost to Washington State. Michigan has played nobody. Iowa's offense is so bad it is embarrassing. But NC State is supposed to be great but probably should be 1-1 with a bad loss on their resume. Clemson doesn't look like a juggernaut. UNC and Pitt, Michigan State  -- I have no idea who is good or bad or elite. Get back to me with this in about five weeks

Yes because the Patriots stink. But the wiseguys set lines to create even money on both sides of the ledger. My guess is the Steelers will be favored come game time.

Ya think?? Ha ha. Absolutely. This is all about trying to force people to watch the NFL via Prime. It won't shock me if this is only the beginning. The NFL will continue to find ways to make people pay for their content, that just is the way it is

Has there been a large amount of picked up flags in Pitt's first two games this year?  It sure seems that way.  Most have seem to go against Pitt.  Why do these guys throw flags and then just announce there is no penalty? If this is a recorded stat, Pitt would be leading NCAA in this category.

I would need someone to give me data on this before I could comment. I do know refs throw flags and at times conference with the other officials and figure out they got it wrong. I would rather they change it and get it right

I see a young Pirates team growing and competing every game. Either the Pirates are really good at disguising their 'tanking,' or those who say they are tanking are wrong. What say you?

Good God. They won four games against a terrible Reds team. Remember earlier this year when they went like 8-3 over 11 games and we were told this was the stretch that proved it was on the verge of explosion. Winning games against bad teams in September is meaningless. See ya next year

Are people getting a little too excited about Highsmith’s performance in game 1? The Bengals started a rookie at left guard and they were obviously giving him help to block Heyward on just about every play which made it a lot easier for Highsmith to get in.

I will say this - we are gonna find out these next four games when he has to play without Watt on the other side exactly where he is and who he is. I think he will play well, I think he is good

I have friends from Chicago who tell me the Mitch you saw last week was the same Mitch they saw.  How much longer do you think Mitch will be the starter if he continues to miss on passes, throw off the wrong foot and throw across his body to the opposite side of the field?

I do not think the Steelers are going to be quick to replace him. He is going to have to be really bad for an extended period to be replaced
