And I just read Jason Mackey'd piece. When he was talking about Pirate catchers he listed Michael Perez as one of the back up options. Did they resign him? Could both Pirate catchers have Perez for a last name?
Zeise
12:35
Apparently that is a real possibility according to Mackey!

Pitt's Hugley looked great the other night but a typical late game collapse doomed the Panthers. Do they win 10 games this year and/or do they remain at the bottom of the ACC this year?
Zeise
12:36
I can’t see how they don’t finish  last or next to last in the ACC

Does Tomlin have the smallest play card in the NFL? He can’t even cover his mouth with that thing.
Zeise
12:37
I never noticed. Maybe that explains it!!!

12:37
If James Franklin hadn't done his new deal with Penn State do you think we'd see his name given as one of the favorites for the jobs at Notre Dame and/or Oklahoma?
Zeise
12:38
Well only if his agent was looking to get him a new deal! If only all these other schools loved James Franklin as much as James Franklin loves James Franklin!

Has the DL become a bigger prior than OL this off season? The entire defense seems to have tanked because of poor DL play.
Zeise
12:39
Well again they will have Heyward and Alualu next season so they are in pretty good shape

I'm intrigued with Pickett as a potential Steeler. But then a lot of college QBs look great vs. college defenses and the ACC is not exactly the SEC or even the Big 10. What's your opinion of him as an NFL player? Franchise type, quality starter, potential starter, etc... I would love to see him on our team but the Zach Wilson's and Sam Darnold's of the world provide cautionary tales. Thank you.
Zeise
12:40
I think he will be a good NFL quarterback. I don’t know if he will be a superstar but I do think he will be a guy you can win games with
Utah Jim
12:40
I don’t know why everyone is so upset. Did they forget the Steelers have only had three head coaches since 1969 and that’s the only standard that matters?
Zeise
12:40
The Steelers way!!!
Mercury
12:40
With all due respect to Cam Heyward, maybe he should be more worried about football Xs and Os than who owns the local hockey club.
Zeise
12:40
I have no idea what that means
Bernard
12:41
Has a pro athlete's parent ever confronted you about coverage of their child prior to Bush Sr?
Zeise
12:41
Yes. And a few spouses too
Bernard
12:41
Single biggest draft need going into next season?  I would suggest a top flight OT if available.
Zeise
12:41
I agree and a guard too

Paul, thanks for your chats and your takes. Your dose of reality has helped put the bandages on after Sundays on the brink. I'm once again getting sucked into a hopeful place for Sunday, but I'm leaning towards Starkey's assessment that we are just not talented enough. Is there any world -- in the NFL-- in which a bunch of average guys can band together, raise their collective performance, and beat the Ravens? Do we have enough leaders to raise the overall bar high enough?
Zeise
12:42
Here is the thing - the Ravens are smoke and mirrors. They aren’t very good either. I have a feeling this is going to be an awful game of bad offense Sunday so anyone can win

The Pirates' refusal to pay Stallings 2.6 million is an insult to all the fans who support the team.  Ben Cherrington has been getting multiple mulligans by "getting something in return." They should have kept Stallings until Henry Davis is ready and then traded him. The return may very well have been better down the road.
Zeise
12:43
But the catcher they signed cost more than he would have so it wasn’t just about salary

12:44
Paul, based around the in the paint talent that Pitt MBB's has demonstrated does Coach Capel for a change, start the year slowly but puts together enough maturity and savvy to salvage this year and thereby his job? You know Heather has a major stake is his success no matter how limited this year is. They would have beaten Minnesota if the ball had bounced their way!
Zeise
12:44
It is a guards game and that is why losing Sibande and Horton was so devastating
Bernard
12:45
Why hasn't Chase Claypool taken that "next step" in his sophomore season?
Zeise
12:45
Because I think he is what he is and that is a really athletic and fast guy who doesn’t have a real natural feel for the game
Bernard
12:46
Given the draft capital expended on Bush, is he the biggest bust under Colbert?  How much of his performance issues stem from his knee injury and do you get any sense from coaching staff or other sources they are expecting a marked improvement over time as he continues to heal?
Zeise
12:47
If he doesn’t pan out and I don’t think he will, yes he would be their biggest bust. His knee isn’t healthy but if he is out there he needs to make plays
Bernard
12:48
What were the impressions of Canada while he was at Pitt?  Were the players, other coaches, etc "awed" by the guy's coaching?  I know him from his days in B10 (Wiscy and MD) and was quite shocked when he was named QB coach, let alone OC.
Zeise
12:49
No. People forget he had some really good skill position players and a great offensive line. His offense was great but he had a lot of great players

12:50
How much cap space will the Steelers have this offseason?
Zeise
12:50
They should have a lot as they have freed uo
12:51
up a lot and the cap is going way up next year. They should be able to add a lot of players
Selz
12:51
Are we over rating Najee Harris? Despite a poor line, really good running backs can find holes a few times during a game. He seems best at moving the pile.
Zeise
12:52
I don’t know - I like what I’ve seen from him and the line is atrocious and there isn’t a real threat from the passing game and the quarterback wants to throw it more anyway
Dennis
12:52
How come in one breath all NFL players are pros and can win any week, but when it comes to the STEELERS they don’t have the talent. I’m confused!
Zeise
12:52
Not every pro is created equally!

I hear everyone calling for the head of MT but what KC the GM. The coach can only play with what's given him and that drafts has been not that great and the trades haven't panned out leaves the steelers with even fewer draft picks. I think think the bleeding should start at the Gm if you to stop it. Get someone one can pick talent.
