He was never going to be signed long term he would cost a lot more than $70 million. And the Hayes deal was more than PR it was a baseball deal

Will the Pirates draw 500K this season?
Zeise
3:57
They will get over a million, they will do that by accident actually

It seems to me Pitt DB's play above expectations based on the round they were drafted in.  Dane Jackson starting in Buffalo, Maddox, and Pinnock.  If available, Damarri Mathis might be a nice 3rd round pick for the Steelers.  What do you think?
Zeise
3:59
Pitt corners have to learn how to play man up and that’s why they have become good pros. They have to play on an island and they have to be able to cover on the perimeter the entire game and do so with a lot of times there being very little safety help
Matt from LA

Other than the kid from Colgate, is there any other positive news or rumors regarding Pitt's hoop team for next year?
Zeise
3:59
Nope. Not yet. It is a long offseason so give it time

Any predictions on the Pirates' final record? My guess is that they will at least avoid the century mark.
Zeise

I am going to go with 68-94. They aren’t a 100-loss team and they aren’t a 70-win team

This doesn't even feel like golf to me. How can I miss the green from 50 yards - then ten minutes later land it to 2 feet from 225. Probably hit more shots from the pine straws today than I have life to date... not bad for an aging gimp. You still think I miss the cut?
Zeise
4:01
I said what I said. I bet what I bet and so, yes I think you will miss the cut
Kevin

Doesn't this deal just make Hayes a more attractive trade bait and nothing more?
Zeise
4:03
I can’t imagine even the Pirates -  as cynical as we are about them - are signing Hayes with the idea he is gonna be traded. Now, four years down the road if he is a superstar and they still stink, yeah that could be a very attactive trade piece

Thanks Paul go Buccos

Do you think Colbert might forgo conventional thought on the relative need to draft a QB because it's his "last draft" and he wants to be the guy responsible for the last two franchise QBs. It had not occurred to me but something I read made that notion come to mind.
Zeise
4:05
No Colbert wants what is best for the Steeers, period.

Paul, On ESPN last evening (I watch it while on the eliptical machine) the pundits, Kiper, Mortensen, et al, all agreed that Malik Willis is the Steelers' pick at 20.  One called it the worst kept secret.  They had Jordan Davis going right before him.
Zeise
4:07
How is he going to go 20th if he isn’t on the board? He won’t be there at 20
Dan

About the Pirates - why should we care?
Zeise
4:09
You don’t have to it is a free country but a lot of other people do

Just drained another birdie - back under par.

I’m your biggest fan but I think you are trying to do the near impossible

Good PR move for the Pirates in signing Hayes. It makes the decision to take Reynolds to arbitration even more perplexing. They need people in the seats, not negative publicity
Zeise
4:11
Well they need to sign Reynolds to a big money deal if they really want to have good will of their fans
RJ Reynolds
4:11
They will draw more than $500k because PNC Park now has BBQ chicken nachos, Chicago dogs and Huge bobble heads.
Zeise
4:12
Lol. If my math is correct about 12,500 is all it would take to get to a million. So I think they get there

PIAA recent news:  agreed with a high school to host, for next 4 Fall seasons, state championship games for four sports.  Recently, they said coaches questioning fairness of private schools competing for championships with public schools is “sour grapes”.  Thinking it’s time for some new blood on PIAA board, or maybe someone look at their books (believe they are non-profit).   What say you?
Zeise
4:15
New blood would be good but it will be more of the same - the old boys network is strong in that organization for sure.
Matt from LA

You have to love Pirate fans! They complain when Nutting doesn't spend any money and then they complain when he does! How fickle?
Zeise
4:15
who is complaining? I think they are complaining that he didn’t sign Reynolds too
John

Is anyone watching The Pirate pre-game? What are the Cards celebrating? Looks like a celebration of something they didn't win.
Zeise
4:16
I couldn’t tell does anyone out there have an answer?

Hi Paul, with the  Pens upcoming opponents in the playoffs being generally being bigger, younger, and faster, and the failure to get consistanrtcy from the likes of Heinan and Rodriguez what would it hurt to throw a fourth line of Zohoran, Angello and O'Conner together on the fourth line for the last five games to see what the have got.
Zeise
4:21
We have seen Angello some but I read a really good article the other day explaining why this isn’t a doable strategy for the Pens for a myriad of reasons. The Pens need to play the way they are likely to play in the playoffs except for rest a few of the offensive stars

Will there be a Sidney Crosby statue at PPG Paints arena?
Zeise
4:24
I would assume there will be one and maybe before he is done playing
John
4:25
Lol. Only the weak Pirates could have their DH bat leadoff. Just saw the lineup.
Zeise
4:25
Well it isn’t like they have a plethora of options

Is the end of spring practice too late for Nick Patti to enter the portal if he is going to be 2nd team?
Zeise

Luke Getsy left at the end of training camp. You can leave whenever you want
