Francis and the Hurricanes seem determined to stick to the "opportunist" way of building the team, preying on teams that are in trouble in some way to acquire talent and picks.
I don't really think that the trade deadline or free agency is really their best avenue for that, though the new owner could have some impact.

There's actually a part of me that thinks Bernier might stick around in Colorado for the next few years.

I don't really think they need to. I know I said all last year that they needed to go for it as their core were aging..but the last 10 months or so has gone extremely well.
Winning the lottery, stealing Johansson, landing that top-4 d, seeing young players blossom

They look like they'll be at least competitive for some time without doing anything.
One note, they'd be crazy to trade Severson.

I'm not sure what to think. I'm a big proponent of getting headshots out of the game. Giordano clearly made contact with the head. He didn't need to line him up, he could have easily ended that rush in another fashion.
But, Aho also has to take some responsibility for cutting across the slot with his head down and at a vulnerable angle.
