Hello everyone. Welcome to our first chat after the deadline.
And what a deadline it was.
Even though Pacioretty, Karlsson etc didn't go...it was still very exciting.
That McDonagh deal...phew.

How about that veags deadline
Gavin Lee
6:08
To be honest, I hated it.
6:09
I think Tatar is a good player, but it's way too much to give up for an expansion team.
6:10
Their prospect pipeline needs a ton more work to become a real system, and throwing away picks for a marginal upgrade at forward isn't the way to do it.
Tatar isn't even a bargain that they can flip at some point.
He's paid just about what he deserves, if not a little too much
Doc Halladay

Think Alexis Lafreniere is the next generational talent to come out of the Q?
Gavin Lee
6:11
He's exceptional, that's for sure.
But I'll wait on giving him the generational label until I see his second year.
To be generational you need to keep getting better, and better, and better.
Joe P.
6:12
What do you grade the Bruins acquisitions.
Gavin Lee
6:12
I like the Nash addition in theory, but thought it was a bit of a sideways move for them with what they gave up.
6:13
He's a really good player, but I'm not sure if they've really improved enough to justify the return.
Spooner might be helpful right now with Bergeron out...

Like a lot of other caps fans extremely upset no moves at the deadline, I truly feel you have to look at your team at the current moment and when ovi your franchise player is having a great year you need to fill your wholes like depth forwards and a top 4 defenseman to make sure you can compete for the cup as you never know where team will. E next year and if ovi will be the same player so in my opinion you take the risks now....my question is can trades still be made after waivers? Just wondering if caps can still add more because if they lose in round 1 or 2 then I think their GM is fired anyway so he should have made moves now
Gavin Lee
6:14
Trades can still be made (but they have nothing to do with waivers) but those players are ineligible for the playoffs.
I wrote a piece the other day about how some teams might still need to make a deal, but they so rarely happen that I'm not expecting anything.
As for the Caps, they simply had no room to do it.
I had been saying that for a while, that I didn't expect them to do much because of their cap situation.
6:15
The rumors about them going after Karlsson or McDonagh, I just can't see how it would have worked.
Marcus
6:15
Great deal without even giving up Point, Sergachev, Gourde or Foote.
Gavin Lee
6:15
This is re: McDonagh/Miller deal..and I agree.
They didn't even give up the prospects that are NHL-ready.
6:16
Cirelli, Joseph, Stephens are all really good pieces that could contribute right away.
But Howden and Hajek are a top notch pair.
6:17
Plus a first, and a possible first? Lots to like for Rangers fans.
Jordan Kyrou
6:17
No love for me lately on here it seems. Must be because of that Calvin Pickard guy... I see where I stand.
Gavin Lee
6:17
Do I really mention Kyrou that much? Well that's interesting.

Have you heard anything about Patrick Eaves returning this season?
Gavin Lee
6:19
He's been around the rink lately, but I am not sure if he's going to come back at all.
I have no idea though, he's been doing his own skating program I think.
Marcus
6:20
Min prospect Sokolov is also having an incredible season in the O.
Gavin Lee
6:21
He's having a very good year, but I wouldn't call it incredible.
Definitely a late rounder to keep an eye on
6:22
But Minnesota needs to sign him.

Any thoughts on which player dealt at the deadline is most likely to sign elsewhere during free agency this summer?
