They have a half dozen guys who can play the position, but still don't seem to have much performance there.

It's not available on the open market unless you think Thornton is the answer (he's not), so it'll take some out-of-the-box thinking in trade if they really want to upgrade.
Me? I'd put Sobotka back in the middle and let him play there all year.

That's a fair point about him only being in high school. Hopefully Lucia knocks it out of him at Minnesota. On the expansion draft subject, I'd personally rather protect Suter, Spurgeon, and Dumba, trade Brodin, get Vegas to take Scandella, and move forward with the protected 3, Reilly, Olofsson, and Folin. Is that smart or dumb?

It's not dumb, but Brodin is a really good player.
It would obviously depend on what's coming back.

If you can get a substantially bigger package for Brodin than Dumba, sure.
But Brodin is locked into a fairly reasonable deal, while Dumba will be coming to another contract soon.

How are the VGK's going to get top quality forwards from the expansion draft. Seems like they can get some great defense and goalies, but the forwards are going to be thin.

There isn't going to be much skill, but they should be able to at least make a good bunch of two-way guys.
Shipachyov is a big part in trying to get that skill, but not winning the draft lottery was painful.
