Making a move for Johansson is exactly what I've been suggesting for months in these chats.
New Jersey isn't rebuilding, they're reloading and trying to win now.
That's not really a good idea, but it's the only option they have with the roster currently there.

If they miss the playoffs again, you can bet some contracts will be moved out and the team handed over to Hischier, McLeod, Zacha and the like.

It sounded like it was so close the other night, but I'm not sure what is stopping them.

I'm not sure if it'll get done, or personally if they even really need it.
If it's going to cost them some of there defensive depth other than Ryan Murray, I think I'd pass.
If, for instance the Avalache were insisting on Gabriel Carlsson being included? I'd hang up the phone.

Who knows at this point.  I've thought since the deadline that Carolina would be the landing spot, but it doesn't look like that anymore.

As above, CBJ was close but nothing happened.
And some are saying they're asking for Ekholm out of Nashville, which isn't going to happen.
Maybe a team like Pittsburgh does come in at the last second like some have suggested.

They will not do well, but that's what they need.

The signings are all, probably exactly what they should do. Guys who could have nice deadline value if given extra ice time, that they can flip for assets at some point in the next couple of years.

Now that marleau has signed with Toronto what do the sharks do to replace him.

I think the Leafs could do something like this and hope they get 33-year old Marleau for the first year or two, and if they don't it doesn't really hurt them.
And in San Jose, can Timo Meier finally break through?

Err, six months ago I would have said not a chance.
But, the deadline and free agency they made some nice moves I think.

If that continues--flipping assets at the deadline, rebuilding through the draft--maybe he does deserve it.

I can see them moving him at that point yes, but it won't be Larsson that pushes him out.

If Montour develops into a top-pairing guy, like many think he can, then Vatanen is expendable.
