Marc Staal is not very good anymore.
5:34
His departure from New York would probably have a more positive impact than anything he gave to Colorado.

Would the Wings move Zetterberg? What could they get back
Gavin Lee
5:34
I have a hard time seeing it...BUT
5:35
After this year his salary drops off a cliff, and that would be very appealing to some teams.
Robert
5:35
Should Detroit just trade Tatar at this point and fully go into rebuild mode?
Gavin Lee
5:35
This goes with the last one..
I think yes. I think they should trade as much as they can and do a real rebuild.
5:36
But that doesn't seem like it's on Ken Holland's mind.

Hi Gavin... are the ducks done with their moves?  Is rasmussen really their plan B to Marleau?  Thanks for the thoughts!
Gavin Lee
5:36
Rasmussen is definitely not a plan B for Marleau.
He is a plan B for Nate Thompson, who went to Ottawa.
5:37
But, it does sound like they were going after Marleau just as hard but weren't willing to structure it like Toronto with the signing bonuses.
That could mean they still think they need another piece, and aren't done yet.
5:38
Either way that team is good enough for a long playoff run, meaning they could just wait for a trade opportunity
Ranger Joe
5:38
Thinking Holden gets traded soon. Enticing enough to a team to get an NHL bottom-six forward?
Gavin Lee
5:38
Definitely enticing enough.
5:39
He's cheap, versatile and is coming off a really good season.
You should be aiming higher than a bottom-six guy.

Do any rookies break camp with the Hurricanes?
Gavin Lee
5:39
Depends on if they move some defense.
5:40
If they think Fleury or McKeown are ready, then they could.
I personally think they should, and plug one of the rookies in.
5:41
One name to watch during the year is Warren Foegele.
I think he'll see some real time with the Canes.
David Baker
5:41
Thoughts on what Columbus has done this off season. What else should they do?
Gavin Lee
5:41
Saad for Panarin is a risky move.
I don't love it from either side really, but if he puts up an 80 point season in Columbus all is forgotten.
5:42
Buying out Hartnell was necessary for them, but they're going to miss him at some point this season. He still had game left.
5:43
If I were them I think I would move on from Ryan Murray, but there would have to be a talented forward coming back.
Dan
5:43
Zetterberg would seem to be a good fit on a line with Kesler and Silfverberg in Anaheim. What would it cost?
Gavin Lee
5:43
Right now? Something crazy. In the middle of another bad season by Detroit? Maybe not that much.
Still, you'd think it would have to take a fired Ken Holland to move a Detroit lifer like Z.

Ryan Spooner can't be in Bruins future plans, but I'm thinking Vancouver would be a great spot for him. Your thoughts?
Gavin Lee
5:44
Would be a good player for Vancouver to target, give plenty of PP time and flip at the deadline.
They don't need to succeed this year, but they should be looking for players like that all over the league.
Signing Vanek is another one.
JG
5:45
Why do the leafs want Marleau? Is it because his experience of not having won a cup means he will be a strong fit in the locker room? But seriously, JVR is better and could probably be extended for the same cap hit
Gavin Lee
5:45
JVR is definitely better, but Toronto talked a lot about Marleau's experience and professionalism when they brought him in.
5:46
Every time they mentioned him, Brian Boyle was also brought up. They loved the impact Boyle had on the team down the stretch and wanted to bring in another player like that (albeit with a little more skill)
