It's hard to justify moving Vatanen as a salary dump. He'd need a really good "controllable, cheap left handed shooting forward"

Looking at the Central division, the Preds and Stars seem to have improved a lot and the Blackhawks seem to have subtracted some but are still very good. Should I be worried as a Wild fan?

The Wild will be good again, but they're stretching that prospect cupboard mighty thin.

Losing valuable depth players like Erik Haula will hurt them.
And spending on Hanzal last year was a mistake.

I thought they'd go after one of the depth guys like Hainsey/Daley/Girardi, but with the prices they got on the open market it would have been a mistake.
I still think an addition like that would be helpful, but the improvement will come during the season as McAvoy and Carlo continue to get more comfortable.
There is a ton of upside on that defense group.

Honestly there just isn't a ton of room in Ottawa right now without moving bodies out.
With White looking ready to contribute, the team has too many centers already and will have to use one of White/Dzingel/Pageau on the wing this year.
That should help in itself.

Absolutely nothing! I love it, but I'm a little concerned about our payroll situation the following seasons. Vatanen is not well liked by Carlyle (he was benched at least once from my recollection during the season). I feel he would get a good return and help create badly needed offense on an already very solid defense team. Just how I see it, anyway.

I agree the Carlyle situation is a bit tricky, but I think it would be a mistake to sell him off for help now. If you can find a legitimate young piece sure, but offensive help is coming for this team in Sam Steel and Max Jones, among others.

Montreal has ~$9mil in cap space per capfreindly, Price increases +$4mil next year ($5mil space) and Plekanec comes off (-$6mil) giving them about $11mil to play with, is their some move that they are going to make, feels like they need a Top 4 puck mover(Lefty) and some definitive answer to a Top 6 center?

That defense group is going to be one of the most immobile groups in the league going forward.
I don't really know what they were thinking giving Alzner five years.
