They absolutely smashed that draft out of the park.
If they'd gotten Tippett as well somehow I may have bought season tickets.

I'm ready for hockey seems way to long of an offseason. Any interesting rumors for the Ducks? Kids coming for the minors or a low level forward with upside?
Gavin Lee
5:42
Not a ton on the Ducks recently. I think we talked about this last week, but watch out for Larsson as a contributor this year at some point.

How are the kings going to score more goals since they didn't sign or trade for any scorers?
Gavin Lee
5:43
Jonny Brodzinski my friend.
But in reality, they did sign Mike Cammalleri. He is a pretty excellent offensive piece for really cheap.
Eric
5:44
Sorry, I was busy with something else so this response is delayed: yea, Hanzel ended up being a mistake. Would love to have those picks back at this point
Gavin Lee
5:44
I think so would Chuck Fletcher.
Eric
5:44
How closely do you follow college hockey? I have a follow up if it's decently close.p
Gavin Lee
5:44
I wouldn't say I'm an expert scout, but yes decently close.

What do you think happens with Tatar?
Gavin Lee
5:45
One-year arbitration around $4.9...traded at the deadline.
I'm obviously not in the negotiating room, but it seems like he's destined for UFA next summer.
Detroit can't let him walk for nothing.
Asking for a friend
5:46
thoughts on the Colton Parayko deal?
Gavin Lee
5:46
It actually seems a bit high to be honest, but everyone, including Parayko knows how his value has skyrocketed recently.
5:47
I think it'll be a huge steal in a few years, I'm just kind of surprised he got $5.5MM only buying out two UFA years.
Eric
5:47
Ignoring this past year, the last three Hobey Baker winners have been Goudreau, Eichel, and Vesey. Hobey Baker has normally not been any indicator of NHL success. Has something changed?
Gavin Lee
5:48
Why are we ignoring Will Butcher!
To be honest though, it's partly because of the way NCAA hockey has improved over the past decade.
5:49
There was once a huge gap in talent from the best to the worst, and older players who didn't have much of a future career would prey on those matchups.
Teams are so much deeper now, that the real exceptional talents are the ones who outperform the crowd.
5:50
The other thing is a shift for coaches to give opportunity to younger players.
College hockey, like every NCAA sport used to be about paying your dues.
5:51
Now, players who are only there for one year get PP1 time and top line minutes.
That said, the next five Hobey Baker winners could never play in the league for all I know.

Thanks Gavin for taking all these questions. These chats are amazing. Are you surprised Daniel Winnik is still available? He's a solid depth player that a lot of teams could use, don't you think?
Gavin Lee
5:52
I do think that. Going back to our talk on possession statistics above, Winnik has been an elite defensive forward in the past.
5:53
He'll find a home somewhere and be a solid contributor, there are just so many teams that look like they want to fill their bottom six with youth now, instead of a traditional checking group.
Matt Duchene
5:53
We can all agree that I'm starting the season in Colorado, right? Sakic is asking too much, right?
Gavin Lee
5:53
Custance was ringing that bell again earlier today, that there is frustration around the league.
I still have a hard time believing he'll start the year in Colorado, but it's definitely a possibility.
Robert
5:53
Bad timing for Detroit that they're opening a new building as they are going into a rebuild. Toronto, Montreal, Chicago and other well traveling fans will love the new arena.
Gavin Lee
5:54
Agreed. You would have liked them to get a top name in the draft to put their new building marketing behind.
Who do you really put forward as the face of that franchise going forward?
Jim Rutherford
5:54
Is my fan base too nervous about the third line center spot? Should I wait until October or even March?
Gavin Lee
5:54
If you listen to Rutherford, everyone is way too nervous.
5:55
He is the most confident GM ever that he'll fix that problem before the start of the year.
Rob
5:55
Any thoughts on the Bruins starting with as many as 7 Rookies in their starting 19?
