yes

I haven't looked at any data for it, but I imagine that there are some bad trends to having it in a time zone opposite North America.
That said, there will always be people who watch.

One of these young D-men in Ottawa is clearly the odd man out with Oduya signing. Chabot? Maybe trading Boro or Wideman?
Gavin Lee
5:29
Chabot is about as untouchable as you can get in the NHL.
5:30
But I do think he might start in the minors now.
Really though, every team has seven defensemen.
Oduya is just depth.
5:31
I wouldn't think they'd trade someone out to make room for him.
(I wouldn't have even signed him)
Robert

Maybe for future world cup have games in both US and Canada? Create a home ice feel to games.
Gavin Lee
5:32
Personally I love the idea of having all the players in once place at a time, but this kind of thing is done in many other tournaments in various sports including hockey.
one place...
Robert
5:33
And then for others go to Europe and Russia? Travel would be a factor, though.
Gavin Lee
5:33
I'm not sure if they'd take their World Cup outside of North America, as silly as that sentence sounds.
Robert
5:34
One place is definitely the most simple. Just trying to think of ways to make it more than just another tournament.
Gavin Lee
5:35
If it's the only real best-on-best tournament around, it can stand on that alone.

What would it take the Ducks to acquire Spooner and Belesky at 50% Retained?
Gavin Lee
5:36
I would be extremely surprised to see any team use both their retained salary transactions in the same deal.
Or is it three.
It's three isn't it.
5:37
That changes my answer a bit I guess.
But still I would worry about using two in the same deal. They'd have to give up real value.
I'm not sure Spooner is the fit for that 3C spot in Anaheim either.

I meant just Belesky at 50% retained.
Gavin Lee
5:38
Oh. Well, then they'd have to move salary back  the other way too.
5:39
Boston is likely looking for young defensive help for Spooner as well, and though they still have Larsson the Ducks have to be careful who they move out after sending Theodore to Vegas.
5:40
Josh Mahura is interesting, but no lock.
Robert

Poille in Nashville is one of the best at signing guys to great value first(Non ELC) contracts.
Gavin Lee
5:40
He has worked some absolute magic.

What center with the Rangers acquire. Will they have to dump Staal? How will the dead cap space affect the team in the future (from hypothetical Staal buyout). Is it worth it for a win now mentality?
Gavin Lee
5:44
I have a hard time believing they'll buy out Staal now. Why not do it in the previous window? They had to know Zibanejad's deal would be somewhere close to where it landed.
I'm not sure who they acquire, if anyone.
There is a real Lias Andersson push, and they could still move Miller back to the middle.
5:45
Vinni Letteri is another name to remember.
He had a huge year for Minnesota last year.
5:46
Lettieri...boy I can't type today.
Paul
5:46
Do Lucic and/or Russell get bought out at some point during their contracts? Those contracts could kill them in a couple years, more specifically Lucic though.
Gavin Lee
5:47
Lucic's contract is buyout proof..he took almost all the money in signing bonuses.
