Gavin Lee

Hey folks. Another long summer day with no hockey.
The showcase yesterday was fun..
Kaleb
6:16
Think Getzlaf and Perry are reunited on the same line?
Gavin Lee
6:17
At some point they will, but I don't think it starts that way.
Let Perry get his feet under him and back on track first.
Noah
6:17
What do you think about the Rangers possibly adding another center.
Gavin Lee
6:18
It's definitely a possibility, but Lias Andersson actually showed me a little something I hadn't seen before against the US in the showcase.
I wonder if they just wait for him.
Otherwise, it's likely a short-term solution
6:19
Lots think Bozak is that spot, but the Maple Leafs need to move wingers, not centers.
Mike
6:25
Are the Blackhawks and Cody Franson actually a match on a PTC and then an actual contract when they can move Hossa to LTIR?
Gavin Lee
6:25
They're definitely a match in terms of need, but I'm still not convinced that Franson will need to settle for a PTO.
6:26
Like Versteeg last year, he may sign one to get into camp only to get a contract somewhere else.
JG
6:26
Where is Bill Butcher going to end up?
Gavin Lee
6:27
Who knows at this point, but early suitors are Chicago, Pittsburgh and Detroit (like always).
He's said multiple times that it's not about opportunity this year, but down the road.
6:28
So even though a place like New Jersey or Buffalo might be able to give him minutes right away, he may go to one of the championship organizations instead.
Seems very focused on winning in the long run.
Steve
6:29
A lot has been made about Vegas' defense depth and potential trades, but what about their center depth? Think any get moved before the start of the year? I know some can play the wing, but it just seems like they have some 3C and 4C potential options for teams.
Gavin Lee
6:29
They definitely have a bunch of options, but I really think that they're hoarding for the deadline.
It's not like they're overflowing with able NHL bodies up front
Habs d core
6:30
Habs d looks slow and lacks a strong first passer. The signed a left handed dman out of the khl that can do that, how do you think he will work out, if not what do they do
Gavin Lee
6:31
I'm not totally sold on Jerabek's ability to be a 5-on-5 contributor, but he'll help zone entries on the powerplay
6:32
The interesting one to watch will be Schlemko. I have a sneaky suspicion he'll be logging top-4 minutes by the end of the year.
He's better at a lot of things than people give him credit for.
Another Dan
6:32
Speaking of Butcher, why don't the Ducks ever get considered as a landing spot for top NCAA free agents?
Gavin Lee
6:33
A lot of it has to do with regional biases. The vast majority of top US-born players still come from the north east, even though that is slowly changing
And even if they're not born there, they have school ties to those areas.
Mike
6:34
Do you have a prediction for Alex Kerfoot's landing spot?
Gavin Lee
6:34
I'd put money on Vancouver, but it's definitely not decided yet.
Bob
6:35
Does Sam Steel get an playing time in the NHL this season?  Is he a future 1C, or more like a 2C or 3C?  Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:35
To me, he's most definitely not a 1C but I'm lower on Steel than some.
I don't think he's ready to start in the NHL, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a midseason injury call up, and then play some at the end of the year and into the playoffs.
6:36
I think his ceiling is a 2C.
Paul
6:36
You said the Leafs need to move wingers, not centers. Earlier this offseason, Bozak was a reported target for the Penguins. Is this still a match or are there too many obstacles?
Gavin Lee
6:36
There's still a match in terms of expiring contract+Pens need, but who would move into that role for the Maple Leafs?
Babcock has wavered about Nylander moving to center, and now sounds like he'll stay on the wing.
The Leafs want to win this year, and moving Bozak now doesn't help that.
6:37
Adam Brooks (linemate of Steel actually) is likely their best center prospect and is definitely not ready for the NHL.
JG
6:37
Is Thornton going to go year by year with SJ until he retires (likely without a cup)?
