As JG has said, they've won without a real 2C before.
JG

I don't seem them contending seriously with the current roster. I know they'll have some flexibility when Hossa goes on IR. But the D is woefully thin.
Gavin Lee
6:44
It is. I wouldn't pick them for the Cup, but let's not forget they won the West last year.
In the regular season I mean.
6:45
Losing Campbell, TvR and Hammer is a big hit on D, I know that.
But Murphy will play better than you think, and all they have to do is get in.
Dan
6:46
Any lesser known guys in the ducks pipeline that you think will make a difference for them this year, ie, like a Kase or Montour?
Gavin Lee
6:48
There's no one that is ready to jump right away except perhaps Jacob Larsson..but I imagine Welinski makes his debut at some point. I liked his game a lot at UMD, and he's another one that in the right situation could make an impact.

How far off is Mahura?  Could he be a top 4 guy in the next couple of years?
Gavin Lee
6:49
I love Mahura, but he's going back to junior this year.
He's a locked and loaded top 4 in my book (though on Anaheim he might not need to be)
6:50
He'll play this year in junior, and probably all of next in the AHL. But he's coming.

What are your thoughts on Sheahan to the Pens as the 3C? Should the Pens wait for a better option to become available?
Gavin Lee
6:51
That was a report that surprised me as well.
That's not the "impact" player that Rutherford has spoken about several times.
But perhaps it's one of the ones he knows he could get already.
I think they wait and just see what shakes loose
6:52
It's not like they will be out of the race in the first two months if they don't have an all-star 3C to start the year.
JG
6:52
Am I alone in thinking Matthew's goal totals will regress to around 30. Seemed to have some puck luck last year.
Gavin Lee
6:53
He definitely had some luck--the one handed tip comes to mind--but if he plays with Nylander all year he could push 40 again.
I'm bullish on Nylander though. I think he has all-world skill with the puck.

Do you think flames move to seattle or they get new arena
Gavin Lee
6:53
I don't think they move.
But that arena battle is a mess.
I'm not sure what happens.
6:54
But seeing the Flames move is not something the NHL wants.

A swedish California based journalist said the rumor last summer was that Sakic turned down a Duchene for Lindholm trade... Maybe the Ducks asked for something more than only Duchene, but how big of a mistake was that by Sakic, if it's true?
Gavin Lee
6:54
If that's true, then it's easily the worst decision of his tenure.
6:55
Lindholm is one of a handful of defensemen in the league who should be untouchable.
Cowboy joe
6:55
When are we going to see the renderings for islanders new arena.
Gavin Lee
6:55
We're still quite a while from even knowing if they get the Belmont site.
Cowboy joe
6:56
Did  they renovate the scotttrade center do you know
Gavin Lee
6:56
I think the renos are on hold still aren't they?
Steve
6:56
Where do you see the next expansion team? Seattle got it locked up or do you think Milwaukee (new arena coming) or Houston could work?
Gavin Lee
6:56
The idea of Bonderman coming into the group in Seattle gives them a huge advantage.
But that doesn't necessarily mean it will be expansion.
6:57
I think Milwaukee would be a great spot for a team, and I've always been open to the Houston idea.
That said, I wasn't even for expansion in the first place.
6:58
I think the league needs to focus more on changing the game from a regional one to a national one, and spreading talent thinner isn't how I would do it.
If I had to put my money on who the next expansion team would be, it would be Seattle.
