If not Duchene, what other 1C options do you see for the Canes? Would you give up Hanifin if it was your call?

I would not. Hanifin was about as high on my board as you could get that year, ahead of Marner and Strome (though I'm not sure he would be now).
Hard to get 1Cs though.

Not sure I agree that Alzner is a bad sign for Habs. Not an ideal fit but is a good contract for a solid 2nd pair FA D and should fit well next to Petry. All that's needed for the D is a puck mover to play next to Weber(hopefully Markov) but Weber did carry Emelin for 2/3's of last year so don't necessarily *need* a true top pair guy.

It's too much and too long for a guy who should really be a third pairing.

The expansion draft was putting pressure, and it seems like it was media-fueled a bit.
Murray was always confident he'd get a deal done with Vegas.

I think they could probably get more out of Pastrnak playing with Krejci on second thought though he did pretty well with Lucic as his power forward and that isn't really how Backes plays. Williams is more of a power forward, right? Williams-Krejci-Pastrnak would be good, and Backes could play with Bergeron and Marchand full time.

Definitely interest in those three, but could land none of them at this point.
If they miss on Williams, they'll turn to other wing options.
