I think he'll be in the AHL, but don't tell Montreal fans that.
Today he's not ready. Lots of time to change my mind, but I think it would be a tough go for him to try and step in right now in any role other than heavily sheltered powerplay specialist.
Maybe that's what they want, but there is so much more if they develop him properly

You know I wonder if it might. It's probably a couple of years too long, but that keeps the cap hit down. He could get a higher number on a three-year deal or something.

Lafreniere is a winger (right now at least) and the Devils are committed to keeping Hughes in the middle.
He's also much more physically mature
