His $8MM extension kicks in next season
Canucks

Under the latest CBA rules, Brock Boeser needs to be qualified at just over $7 million, I believe?  Do you think he will ever approach being worth that kind of money?  He's almost 25 now....  is there still upside to him?  Should the Canucks be looking to re-sign him?
Gavin Lee
6:44
Even worse, his QO will be $7.5MM this summer
6:45
His deal was signed before the CBA change, so it's the salary he earns in the final season (this one)
Can Boeser be worth that much? Absolutely. Is it right for the Canucks to sign him long term at a big money deal? I don't think so
6:46
I've been suggesting that he needs to be a trade chip for a while, even though people don't really want to think about it in Vancouver

Nick Robertson for klingberg? A little something more to Dallas to retain salary? Reunite the brothers
Gavin Lee
6:46
Haha, that's a nice thought, having the brothers together.
I think it would probably take a little more than that.
And boy, does Klingberg not give the Maple Leafs any of what they lack
6:47
Except that he's right-handed, I guess

What would Nick Paul get in return if he is traded?
Gavin Lee
6:47
Probably not a first, but a second for sure

You mention Bruins in talks on lots of forwards, I still think they have to add a D, as there top priority, do you not agree?
Gavin Lee
6:48
I think for me it would be a forward, but I can understand why you might be a bit worried about the D
6:49
I personally think Vaakanainen is the answer there, though

Any news on the Evander Kane situation?
Gavin Lee
6:50
Just that the NHL isn't finalizing the investigation results until the weekend at the earliest

Would anyone take on ritchie right now or would another price need to be added to get someone to take him?
Gavin Lee
6:52
Well everyone had a chance at him when he was on waivers, and no one took him
So yes, it would need something else for someone to take him
6:53
It's funny though, because you would have never seen Ritchie on waivers at the beginning of the season, right?
I actually think there is an underused strategy in the NHL, where you waive bottom-six players that have multiple years left, and move them off the roster every off day to accrue more cap space than sending your ELC guys
6:54
Like no one is claiming Matt Martin if you waived him. He has two more years on his deal at $1.5MM
6:55
Anyway, I'm going to shut it down there, I have some edits to make before Brian comes on for tonight's shift.
Thanks everyone, I'll see you next week!
