Watching the Chicago Detroit game I kept asking myself about Dach. Is this guy projected to be the player people thought? Top 3 pick and playing on the third line?
Gavin Lee
6:20
I think everyone got a little bullish on him at the beginning, and that wrist injury certainly didn't help. But at the same time, I don't expect him to settle on the third line. There's still oodles of talent and size there.
6:21
It doesn't help that Chicago isn't a very well constructed roster
He only turned 21 last week, more time is needed

As an Avs fan I’ve been dreaming of Alex Newhook turning into a Brayden Point type player. Am I nuts?
Gavin Lee
6:22
I think you're a little nuts, but don't let that stop you from dreaming.

can You see the likes of William Eklund and edvinsson coming to  North America next season and possibly make the NHL roster?
Gavin Lee
6:23
I think Eklund will be a full time Shark next season
6:24
Edvinsson it's either Detroit or back to Sweden again, he still has a contract over there so it won't be the minor leagues.
Or, I should say probably not the minor leagues.
6:25
Can he make the roster? Sure. Do I think it's best for his development? Probably not.
Bruce There it Is
6:25
What does a realistic return for JT Miller or Brock Boeser look like?
Gavin Lee
6:26
I think Miller will fetch a 1st plus a prospect, Boeser I'm a little unclear on at this point. I mean do you really want to pay up to acquire him, only to have a $7.5M qualifying offer sitting there waiting for you?
6:27
I'm just not really sure what kind of deadline war he'd have.
Now if it came with an extension, sure--but that does seem like more of an offseason move to me.
Arizona
6:28
and how could a team function in a 5000 seat arena?
Gavin Lee
6:28
I may be one of the only people actually kind of excited by this news
6:29
I mean it's not our finances being wasted, right? I'm not sure why everyone is so mad about it. The ownership has the money to spend, if they're willing to spend it.
Imagine the wild packed barn you could get at a college rink.
ASU already has a good fanbase
And it would be kind of a foothold in Tempe for the club
Mike

What do the Penguins do at the deadline?  Do Malkin, Letang, or Rust get signed before the offseason?
Gavin Lee
6:30
There is more and more doubt that Letang will re-sign.
But Malkin is going to, I think.
As for the deadline, it will probably be relatively quiet
6:31
They like their group, they have players injured that will be coming back
Maybe a couple of depth adds, but I'll be surprised if they go after the big fish unless someone else gets hurt

Lots of vitriol from Oilers fans about the Kane signing. Are they justified?
Gavin Lee
6:32
I don't know if I can really judge whether someone is justified in their frustration, but I don't think I would have signed Kane.
6:33
The one thing I'll say to everyone that is wondering if he'll "destroy the room." What room are you hoping to protect? The Oilers have won five games since the beginning of December
It's not like they're some juggernaut that is taking a huge risk here. They're a desperate club hoping he can stay out of the news for a few months
Brian
6:34
Hey Gavin, Ron Francis has been a gm before and should know what he is doing right? Why is he making such bad decisions and letting some players (Bastian) walk via waiver?
Gavin Lee
6:34
Well to be honest, the waivers thing was always going to be an issue once they didn't make a bunch of expansion trades.
6:35
The issue with the way the expansion draft rules were set up is that everyone available (basically) isn't waiver-exempt anymore
So you can't build a minor league group at all through the draft, unless you take players that will clear waivers
Those players aren't the ones you're usually targeting, meaning you're in a pickle
Remember, Shea Theodore was kept in the minor leagues by the Golden Knights in their first season because they didn't have the roster room to bring him up
6:36
The biggest thing for me was always--why did you sign those free agents.
Grubauer, Schwartz, Wennberg, etc
It just made no sense to me
