Penguins seem to need someone on defense to help with their playoff push.  Assuming Jarry comes back healthy, who fits in Pittsburgh?
Gavin Lee
5:47
Man, they need Brian Dumoulin to not be a ghost
5:48
I have wondered if they would target a different kind of addition – like a Mario Ferraro or something.
I'm not sure if the answer is bringing in a rental

Also, chatter on Karlsson has gone a bit quiet. How likely do you think he is to be traded percentagewise and if so, where? I ran some numbers and about 8 teams could do it by trading back low value pending UFAs for cap purposes but I can't remember who was on the list. BUF can do it straight up by why would you with Dahlin and Power.
Gavin Lee
5:49
I honestly think the percentage on it is still very low
It's just an incredibly hard trade to make in-season
5:50
Also, and I don't mean to diminish what Karlsson is doing because he's one of my favorite players to watch and has been for a long time – but I've said this before: beware the career year from a player on a bad team.
You can't just take that production and drop it into a good team. It doesn't work that way

If not Meier who do the Devils target at the deadline?
Gavin Lee
5:51
I would love to see them add Tarasenko. I just think that would be incredibly fun
Joe
5:52
Sabres a buy, sell or hold at the trade deadline?  Knowing Portillo won't sign and unknown status on the other potential unsigned pick (D) Johnson?
Gavin Lee
5:52
I actually think they might be a buyer
5:53
Teams that have a successful rebuild usually go through this kind of "establish yourself" season, and that's what this is for Buffalo
Even if they're not Cup contenders, they need a reward to keep the train moving forward
5:54
I'm not saying add a straight rental for your first-round pick or anything, but you don't want to see a big sell off either

Following Anaheim and a big mintyukov fan. With Drysdale Zellweger and mintyukov which one of these can be the leader on the back end and how do you see their roles on the team.
Gavin Lee
5:55
I still love Jamie Drysdale, but it's been a tough start
5:56
Zellweger I don't know if he's going to make quite the impact that people think he will from his junior performances, and Mintyukov is still a bit of a black box to me
5:57
I mean it might work, and he might turn into Mo Seider. But there is something I just can't quite be sure on yet
The leader is a long way from being determined
Early failure can make leadership disappear for a long time
5:58
While early success can rally a team around you unexpectedly

What would it take to get Edmunson from MTL to Pittsburgh?  Couple 2nd rounders?  Think he is under contract for next year as well
Gavin Lee
5:59
He is, and maybe that's close. He has something of an aura around him still from the Cup team
As in, I don't know if he's worth 2 2nds in terms of performance, but he might be worth it in terms of the market that wants him

Any chance laine gets delt? If so possible retuen
Gavin Lee
6:00
I doubt it. He was probably part of the pitch to Gaudreau
And from all accounts he likes playing in Columbus

Larkin and Bertuzzi will the wings trade them and what would they possibly get back?
Gavin Lee
6:01
I never thought it would be this long until Larkin was signed, and now it at least needs to be talked about in the front office
If they aren't just doing the final details, they're going to have to move him. The program is too close to pass up that chance
Bertuzzi I am much less clear about.
6:02
If he had been healthy the last few years, free of controversy, and producing at a high level – he's one of the most unique players in the league
But he's played what? 90 games over the last three seasons combined?
6:03
Hard to give up a lot for that
Joe M
6:03
Wouldn’t it have been better for the Islanders to trade for Meier instead of Bo?  Meier seems like the better fit positional wise
Gavin Lee
6:03
He's also just a better player
6:04
Maybe it's more difficult, maybe they really like the center aspect, maybe Lou just really regrets trading that 9th (I think) overall draft pick, haha
If I were a GM that was trading packages of firsts and top prospects, I would be targeting Meier, not Horvat.
