Means that if the Islanders miss the playoffs and win one of the top three draft spots in the lottery, they can send their 2021 pick instead.
Technically it means they could have 1,2,4 this year--but obviously that would be ridiculous.

Been a lot of talk that the Hurricanes need to trade for a right shot D-man.  With all the talent at the AHL, why not bring up one of those talented guys?

I think it is more that Brind'Amour and the front office have wanted a different TYPE of defenseman all season.
Right from the start there was chatter about them perhaps wanting a shake up
Bringing up Jake Bean doesn't really give you that different look.
Joey Keane was a start in that direction, even if he's not exactly the player you can plug in and fix stuff.

Gavin the Sens are certainly building for the future but in your opinion, by the time this team is competitive again, is it even in Ottawa. Melnyk finances, low attendance and alienating more fans every year with these selloffs likely means this team won't be in Ottawa in 2024 when they are probably competitive again.
