There is technically a clause in the new CBA that would have the cap inflate next season, but it would take MASSIVE amounts of revenue over the next few months to get there--which simply isn't happening.
Remember that TV deal doesn't just dump three billion into the bank for the NHL, it's a contract for the next seven years
Even if it did, it still likely wouldn't be enough to make up what needs to be reached for the cap to move up

Our Zach Leach did a piece the other day on how the Kraken actually don't have standing in the league yet so can't file contracts for college or undrafted free agents yet

But once they do, I imagine their first player will be one similar to Vegas' a junior player who either went undrafted or, like in the case of Reid Duke, drafted late and never signed.
Their first draft pick? Who knows at this point
But I imagine they won't have the same draft capital that Vegas did after making a few expansion draft deals.

Sometimes I think people forget how huge that was for the franchise. They had the 6, 13 and 15 picks.

You know I don't have any sense of who they're actually going to get. The Maple Leafs have been in discussions on pretty much every available forward lately and I'm really not sure where they will end up
I know Kyle Dubas said the other day that he's willing to trade a top prospect, but I just don't really see the fit out there that would require one
I mean you're not giving up Rodion Amirov for a couple of months of Mikael Granlund

Rickard Rakell excluded, he still seems to fit them the best in my opinion, given his cheap second year

Draft picks and maybe B-tier prospects, but that team needs entry-level guys next season to afford everyone else

That's another team without a lot of cap flexibility, unless PIetrangelo is out until the playoffs.
He was moved to LTIR and seen with a cast on his hand, but I still thought he was supposed to be back

You would think Ekholm to Winnipeg is the best fit out there
But I actually wonder about Brandon Montour too, because he'll be cheaper and Winnipeg's biggest problem is getting it out of their zone effectively to those talented forwards

The big question mark in New York is Buchnevich, because he will demand a raise in arbitration and is getting closer to UFA

I just don't know if you can really pay him if you're the rangers, given how much talent you have coming on the wings.
So, what if you could flip him for a haul at this deadline? He compares pretty favorably to the other wingers on the market, is younger and still cheap for this season
